2019 PFF All-Big Ten Team

Brad Hawkins

Pro Football Focus named their All-Big Ten team (LINK), and while I won’t go about posting every all-conference team, I wanted to make note of this first teamer:

[Brad] Hawkins was one of the most balanced defenders in the BigTen, with grades hovering around 80.0 in run defense (80.6), tackling (83.9) and coverage (80.3),” they wrote. The longest catch he allowed on the season went for only 25 yards, and it was the only catch of 20-plus yards he allowed all year.”

Hawkins was the culprit on K.J. Hamler’s long touchdown against Penn State. Some people – including former Michigan defensive backs – were going off on Twitter, blaming Don Brown for putting Josh Metellus on Hamler one-on-one.

Review of 2008 Recruiting: Defensive Tackle

Mike Martin (image via AnnArbor.com)

THE ROSTER

  • Will Johnson (RS Sr.)
  • Terrance Taylor (Sr.)
  • Jason Kates (RS So.)
  • Renaldo Sagesse (So.)

THE RECRUITS

Mike Martin
High school: Novi (MI) Catholic Central
Ratings: 4-star, #14 DT, #213 overall
School: Michigan
Other notable offers: Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State
Scoop: Martin was an immediate-impact guy in Ann Arbor. He made 20 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks as a true freshman. He was consistently good and highly productive for the Wolverines, totaling 172 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks through 2011. He was a 3rd round pick (#82 overall) of the Tennessee Titans in 2012, but his career slowly faded. His best year was his rookie season (22 tackles, 3 sacks), he barely played in 2015, and he ended up signed with the Eagles in 2016 but didn’t play during the regular season.

Review of 2008 Recruiting: Defensive Ends

Nick Perry

It has been a while since I posted one of these, but it’s time to start kicking them out again now that it’s the off-season. So hop into the Way Back Machine and head back to National Signing Day 2008, the first year of the Rich Rodriguez experiment in Ann Arbor.

THE ROSTER

Tim Jamison (RS Sr.)
Andre Criswell (RS Jr.)
Brandon Graham (Jr.)
Adam Patterson (Jr.)
Greg Banks (RS So.)
Will Heininger (RS Fr.)
Ryan Van Bergen (RS Fr.)

THE RECRUITS

None. Michigan landed zero defensive end recruits in the 2008 class.

Hit the jump for the targets and the whiffs.
