Ex-Wolverine Updates: Week 5

October 5, 2016

Jay Hopson

Former WR/S Brian Cole II: Cole made 3 tackles, blocked a punt, and returned a fumble 50 yards for a touchdown in East Mississippi Community College’s 73-7 victory over Mississippi Delta Community College. Below is his five-game highlight film from this season:

Former CB commit Gareon Conley: Conley made 2 tackles in Ohio State’s 58-0 demolition of Rutgers.

Former defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin: Durkin improved to 4-0 as a head coach as Maryland beat Purdue, 50-7.

Former RB commit Damien Harris: Harris had 2 carries for 11 yards in Alabama’s 34-6 win over Kentucky. Harris is the starter but left the previous week’s game early with an ankle injury.

Former head coach Brady Hoke: Hoke might be on the hot seat (along with Ducks head coach Mark Helfrich) after a third straight loss. Oregon now sits at 2-3 after losing to Washington State, 51-33. The particularly crazy thing here is that Washington State – headed up by Air Raid disciple Mike Leach – rushed for 280 yards and 6 touchdowns in the game. That’s the most rushing yards for WSU since the season opener in 2011 when they ran for 289 against Idaho State.

Former linebackers coach Jay Hopson: Hopson, who spent the last few years at Alcorn State, is now the head coach at Southern Mississippi. They’re 4-1 after a 44-28 win over Rice. The Golden Eagles are scoring 41.8 points/game while giving up 21.4.

Former LB commit Antonio Kinard: Kinard made 5 tackles in Cincinnati’s 45-20 loss to South Florida. He’s the Bearcats’ second-leading tackler, with 38, behind safety Eric Wilson with 45.

Former DT Ondre Pipkins: Pipkins made 1 tackle in Texas Tech’s 55-19 win over Kansas.

Former CB Terry Richardson: Richardson made 1 tackle in Marshall’s 43-27 loss to Pitt.

Former LB Kaleb Ringer: Ringer made 4 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in Georgia State’s 17-3 loss to Appalachian State.

Former head coach Rich Rodriguez: Rodriguez’s Arizona Wildcats fell to 2-3 after a 45-24 loss to UCLA. Arizona quarterback Brandon Dawkins was 8/17 for 1 touchdown and had 8 carries for 44 yards before leaving with sore ribs. Third-stringer Khalil Tate came in to complete 5/9 passes for 2 touchdowns, along with running 15 times for 79 yards, but it wasn’t enough.

Former DE commit Darian Roseboro: Roseboro made 2 tackles in North Carolina State’s 33-16 win over Wake Forest.

Former OL/DL Tom Strobel: Strobel made 1 tackle in Ohio’s 17-7 win over Miami-OH.
