As everyones aware Harbaugh is taking the Team and roaming to Rome. I still have not stopped laughing about this on a variety of levels. When I do begin to cease on the chuckle from one aspect; I turn my attention to another aspect of Harbaugh’s Roman Odyssey and experience some more Humor.

My first reaction on the trip was WOW! Harbaugh’s stirrin the pot again! LOL; how did Notre Dame let this one slip by? Then when I read Harbaugh’s explanation & itinerary of it all I had another really good laugh. One about the ‘educational’ twist but then when he said “…experience another Culture.” Thats when I really lost it. LOL ditto. Glad he’s thinking of the children. Jimmy stick to coaching football – not cultural geography.

Of course anyone who understands anything about Western Civilization as it exists today knows that Rome rather than being another Culture is in fact the very foundation if not the cornerstone & cause, directly and/or indirectly of the last 2000ish years of Western Civilization to include Murahka.

So Why Rome, Jim? Of all the cities on Earth many of which really are of a different Culture; Tokyo, Beijing, New Delhi, Cairo, Moscow, Pretoria, Melbourne, Rio, Etc – they have soccer stadiums in all these cities, too soooooo…….Why Rome, Jim? Harbaugh also said the Team will visit the Vatican; Hey Jimmy – will they visit Mecca someday, too or maybe Ankor Wat? Why Rome? Jim?

LOL, Yeah, We know Why? don’t we? Lets cut the bullshit here. This is about getting a better ‘in’ & solidifying a recruitment base to the Football rich Roman Catholic High schools system here in the United States. The Paramus Catholic pipe line probably ain’t gunna last foreever and Harbaugh has been trying hard to get an in at Bishop Gorman in Nevada – a place that Urban Meyer – also a devout Catholic – almost has a recruitment lock on. There’s a hell of a lot of Catholic Football rich powerhouse high schools all across America and Harbaugh needs to get as many ‘ins’ to these schools as possible. The trip to Rome is a damn good way to zero in on the emotions & beliefs & empathy of the Parents of potential recruits.

Now Jimmy’s first HC gig as most know was University of San Diego – a private non scholarship Roman Catholic University; and I would not be surprised that Harbaugh first hatched the idea of a trip to Rome while there; USD wouldn’t have the kind of interest or $$$ to finance that for a non scholarship team but EVERYONE knows Michigan does!

The University of Michigan is, however, not a Private Catholic school but rather a PUBLIC UNIVERSITY. So IF Harbaugh has a religious based motivation for this trip in order to aid recruitment on a religious based level AND – repeat – AND it is to the detriment of other potential recruits of another religion or perhaps of a secular conviction; Harbaugh may be opening up the University of Michigan to not only some hellacious Lawsuits but some major league sanctions………

What ever the discussions about all of this were between Harbaugh & Staff and the Ad……… hope they did better than Nixon and BURNED THOSE TAPES!! LOL yes my chuckle on another level.

You make it sound all conspiracy-like…

I think Rome can be a very educational place. It’s a destination where many students who study abroad end up. A very good friend of mine studied abroad in Rome. Even if there’s some drive to get Roman Catholic football players to end up at Michigan, I don’t think it would be a strong enough need for Michigan to build that up when they’ve done pretty well recruiting, anyway.

It’s an interesting thought. And for all I know, maybe it did factor into Harbaugh’s thinking a little bit. But in my opinion, I think it’s more about Harbaugh saying:

“NCAA, I dare you to take away chances for student-athletes to travel and study abroad in Rome when you talk about the best interests of student-athletes.”

        LOL – yeah! Conspiracy man!
Everytime I see a picture of Drevno & Brown chillin with Harbaugh at the 50 yard line I know they’re all plotting against not simply the NCAA but the entire future of Humanity as well……LOL

besides everyone knows that Italian porn is the best and when in Rome do as the Romans do!

I don’t think for 1 second that Harbaugh is first & formost intentionaly trying to thumb his nose at the NCAA. Rather he’s trying his best to do his job as a Professional Football Coach in the employ of the University of Michigan.

First & foremost this means Recruitment, Recruitment, Recruitment!

I’ll digress back to his first year at USD:
Harbaugh’s team had gotten the shit beat out of it; had 50sumthin points put up on em. At the end of the game Harbs let the coach know he didn’t appreciate the score being run up. The opposing coach’s response? (paraphrase) Its not my job to stop my offense. Thats your job! Recruit better players and become a better coach.

take note Thunder, nothing there about playing games with the NCAA. Harbaugh’s job is to recruit ‘better players’ and that is what fielding anykind of a competitive team is about. Harbs needs to take advantage of the Recruitment rich environments. Those environments are not simply Fla, Ga, Tx & California but also the Football Talent Rich Roman Catholic high schools all across Murahka. One only needs to peer at the National High School Rankings to see they are dominated by the National Catholic Parochial School system. Harbaugh has to use his own Catholic connections to get ‘ins’ at those schools as one of the sources from which to recruit. Plain & simple – nothing complex or hard to understand here.

A ‘field study abroad trip’ to Angkor Wat, for example would be far more educational from a ‘New Culure’ standpoint as well as seeing the largest religious temple ever built. The Vatican and Michigan stadium together can fit inside it!. Exposure to Eastern ideas, settings culture, etc – How educational can you get?

But not going to help Catholic recruitment for him here in ‘The States’one damn bit – in fact may even have a severe backlash as religiously bigoted parents might think Harbaugh is leading their kids into the breach of sin & Hell itself. LOL

So come on children, says Harbaugh; “follow me to Rome; I’m the Pide Piper’. lol

        IMHO………….INTJohn
