I mentioned it in the Way to Early thread, but why isn’t there any interest in Tyrone Sampson Jr? 2 of the 3 best C’s on the team will be gone after this year, and while there is a lot of hype Ruiz hasn’t proven anything yet. From all accounts either Sampson or Ruiz could be a G as well. I know it’s a small class, but it seems a highly ranked local kid that plays a position that where there will be not depth would be sought after. If Ruiz does play this year, Sampson could redshirt next leaving 2 years between them which would shore the position up for the next few years.

I don’t have a great answer for that, other than the fact that Michigan has already seen Ruiz in action and seems to like him pretty well. They’ve also tried Runyan there, and while he’s playing elsewhere this spring (probably because Kugler, Cole, and Ruiz are all available), he might be an option in 2018 and beyond. Sampson also might be a wee bit small for this coaching staff. He’s listed at 6’3″, 295, which means he’s probably 6’2″. I wonder if they might think he won’t be big enough to hold up in the middle.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Sampson gets an offer from Michigan before all is said and done, though.
