MLive: Harbaugh’s coaching staff #4 nationally in pay

December 6, 2017

Jim Harbaugh’s assistants are #4 in the country in total pay (LINK), and that total number will go up soon when safeties coach Brian Smith is replaced and when Scott Turner becomes Michigan’s tenth assistant coach in January.

    OK – ‘total pay’…….

but what is the % of that ‘pay’ relative to the total ‘football’ income revenue generated at Michigan?

In other words maybe michigan makes a helluvalot more in terms of football generated revenue then any1 else and what they pay to the coaching staff is actually in terms of overall percentile maybe ‘minimum wage’. No I don’t think this but apples need to be compared to apples, etc.

Bottom line inference is, of course, ‘is Michigan getting thier money’s worth?’ From the football coaching staff?

My opinion is YES! Harbs & Co r earning their keep; maybe a bargain? That maybe true also……..

I can argue this either way – short term answer is simplistically easy; but long term well ‘investing in Futures’ is always where the big paytoff lies!

I’m on the ‘long term’ investment with Harbs & Co. – but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop being a major critic!!!!!!!

    Jez because!………..INTJohn

I know to attract top couching talent we have to offer competitive contracts.

Having said that, it would be my preference to see new coaches provided with incentive pay based on attainable goals resulting in games won, and comparisons with peers. Position coaches especially must excel at player development. Great recruiters should be compensated.

Long term contracts esp. with buyouts have to be earned. I would like to see some changes in our offensive coaches, or at the very least the O coaching must improve. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

Couching talent? I don’t want any Harvey Weinsteins working at Michigan.
