Recruiting Update: October 1, 2015

October 1, 2015

Arlington Heights (IL) St. Viator tight end Cole Kmet

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016

Suwanee (GA) Collins Hill defensive end Tomon Fox, a North Carolina commit, was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 230 lb. prospect who also has offers from Auburn, Miami, Notre Dame, and Penn State, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #30 weakside end, and #446 overall. Fox committed to UNC in June, but he is expected to give Michigan a look and potentially visit. The weakside end (a.k.a. Buck linebacker) position is somewhat shallow at Michigan, and with no proven players at the position, Michigan is looking to add someone in the 2016 class to go with Camden (NJ) Camden’s Ron Johnson, Jr.

Hit the jump for some new 2017 and 2018 offers, plus some random bits.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Norcross (GA) Norcross defensive end Robert Beal was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 210 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and Notre Dame, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #3 weakside end, and #73 overall. Beal is a long and lean end who has good speed and length, but he plays with good leverage and could eventually be a strongside end prospect, too. The early leaders appear to be Florida State and Notre Dame.

Arlington Heights (IL) St. Viator tight end Cole Kmet was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 230 lb. prospect with offers from Baylor, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Ohio State, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #6 tight end, and #243 overall. Kmet is a good two-way tight end who can block and catch the ball. Notre Dame looks to have the early lead.

Ligonier (PA) Valley safety Collin Smith was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 196 lb. prospect whose lone offer comes from the Wolverines. He claims a 4.54 forty. Smith is a high school quarterback, but Michigan wants him as a safety, where he looks like a hard-hitting linebacker/safety hybrid.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2018
Ramsey (NJ) Don Bosco Prep defensive end Tyler Friday was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 255 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan and Rutgers. Michigan has unsuccessfully recruited Don Bosco in the past, most notably in 2012 when the Wolverines pursued wide receiver Leonte Carroo (Rutgers), defensive end Darius Hamilton (Rutgers), safety Elijah Shumate (Notre Dame), and cornerback Yuri Wright (Colorado).

Prattville (AL) Prattville wide receiver Cam Taylor was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 189 lb. prospect with a lone offer from Michigan. He’s a teammate of 2016 running back Kingston Davis and linebacker Dytarious Johnson, both of whom are committed to the Wolverines.

OFF THE BOARD
St. Petersburg (FL) Farragut safety Craig Watts committed to Colorado. It seems that the former Wisconsin commit is taking a step down by pledging to the Buffaloes, but Michigan didn’t get a strong look, anyway.

MISCELLANEOUS
You can find updates on 2016 and 2017 commits in the Recruit Tracker posts (LINK).

Concord (CA) De La Salle center/defensive tackle Boss Tagaloa named Michigan to his top five. Michigan has talked to Tagaloa about playing both ways – which would be a rare feat – and the Wolverines are also targeting Tagaloa’s teammate, Devin Asiasi.
