Casey Phinney, Ex-Wolverine

Tyler Martin and Casey Phinney

Dedham (MA) Noble & Greenough linebacker Casey Phinney decommitted from Michigan on Saturday, announcing a commitment to Boston College instead.

Phinney committed to Michigan in April, and you could probably tell that I was not high on him as a prospect (LINK). So this decommitment does not disappoint me too much. I would prefer to still have Phinney committed if Michigan had been able to land offensive guard teammate Drew Kendall, but that ship seems to have sailed. Phinney by himself? That wasn’t that interesting to me. He is currently a 3-star, the #50 inside linebacker, and #1189 overall.

Interestingly, Phinney is also good friends with 2022 linebacker Tyler Martin (see the above picture), who committed to Michigan recently (LINK).

Michigan has now suffered two decommitments in the 2021 class, Phinney and Clayton (OH) Northmont wide receiver Markus Allen. There remain three linebackers committed to the Wolverines: Junior Colson, Jaydon Hood, and Tyler McLaurin.
