All-Time Leaders: Interceptions Thrown in a Game

Demetrius Brown (image via Pinterest)

This is not a list you want to be on, but you have to take the bad with the good. So here’s a look at the players who have thrown the most interceptions in a single game, and I was not aware of the school record until now:

  1. 7 – Demetrius Brown (1987 vs. Michigan State)
  2. 5 – Stan Noskin (1959 vs. Wisconsin)
  3. 4 – John Wangler (1979 vs. Purdue)
  4. 4 – John Navarre (2001 vs. Ohio State)
  5. 4 – Tate Forcier (2009 vs. Ohio State)
  6. 4 – Denard Robinson (2012 vs. Notre Dame)

How do you throw 7 interceptions in a single game and not get pulled before you reach that point?

Brown’s stat line during that game: 12/26 (46.2%), 158 yards, 1 touchdown, 7 interceptions. Michigan State won by a score of 17-11.

I planned to list the times players have thrown 3 interceptions in a game, but there are 44 of them!

Steve Smith and Rick Leach both threw 3 interceptions four times each. The most recent time a Michigan QB threw 3 picks in one game was J.J. McCarthy against Bowling Green in 2023.

All-Time Single-Game Receiving Touchdown Leaders

Derrick Alexander

I thought I would put together the list of top scoring performances for receivers in Michigan history. Again, if you want to set some passing/receiving records at Michigan, make sure you’re healthy for the Indiana game.

  1. 4 – Derrick Alexander (1992 vs. Minnesota)
  2. 4 – Jehu Chesson (2015 vs. Indiana)
  3. 3 – Ron Kramer (1955 vs. Missouri)
  4. 3 – Greg McMurty (1989 vs. Minnesota)
  5. 3 – Desmond Howard (1991 vs. Boston College)
  6. 3 – Desmond Howard (1991 vs. Indiana)
  7. 3 – Derrick Alexander (1992 vs. Northwestern)
  8. 3 – David Terrell (1999 vs. Alabama)
  9. 3 – David Terrell (2000 vs. Northwestern)
  10. 3 – Braylon Edwards (2004 vs. Michigan State)
  11. 3 – Braylon Edwards (2004 vs. Texas)
  12. 3 – Mario Manningham (2006 vs. Notre Dame)
  13. 3 – Jeremy Gallon (2013 vs. Notre Dame)
  14. 3 – Devin Funchess (2014 vs. Appalachian State)
  15. 3 – Donovan Peoples-Jones (2018 vs. SMU)
  16. 3 – Nico Collins (2019 vs. Indiana)

Over one hundred players have caught 2 touchdowns in a game, so I won’t list them all.

All-Time Career Field Goals Made Leaders

Jake Moody

With the graduation of Jake Moody – and his possible drafting this spring – I wanted to take a look back at the top field goal kickers in Michigan history.

  1. 69 – Jake Moody (2018-2022)
  2. 64 – Garrett Rivas (2003-2006)
  3. 63 – Remy Hamilton (1993-1996)
  4. 57 – Mike Gillette (1985-1988)
  5. 45 – Brendan Gibbons (2010-2013)
  6. 42 – Quinn Nordin (2017-2020)
  7. 39 – J.D. Carlson (1989-1991)
  8. 37 – Kenny Allen (2012-2016)
  9. 31 – Ali Haji Sheikh (1979-1982)
  10. 29 – Bob Bergeron (1981-1984)

Interestingly – to me, at least – some of the best years in modern Michigan history are not represented here, such as 1997-2002. That was right in the middle of the Lloyd Carr years. Maybe Michigan was too busy scoring touchdowns with Anthony Thomas, David Terrell, etc. to be kicking many field goals.
