Recruit Tracker: DeVeon Smith

August 23, 2012: Smith’s Warren (OH) Howland team beat Warren (OH) Lakeside by a score of 43-16.    Smith had 17 carries for 311 yards (18.3 yards per carry) and 3 touchdowns.  He also had at least 1 tackle and 1 sack on defense.  Howland is 1-0.

August 31, 2012: Howland fell to Warren (OH) Harding by a score of 34-0.  Smith hurt his shoulder early in the game and did not return, except for a brief moment in the third quarter.  Howland is now 1-1.

September 7, 2012:  Howland beat Cortland (OH) Lakeview by a score of 22-18.  Despite a sore shoulder, Smith played the entire game and recorded 183 yards on 26 carries, including a two-yard touchdown run to put his team on top with only 1:11 remaining in the game.  Howland is now 2-1.

September 14, 2012:  Howland scored a victory over Hubbard (OH) Hubbard, 28-20, Friday night.  Smith ran for 193 yards on only 20 carries and scored four touchdowns.  Howland is now 3-1.

September 21, 2012:  Howland beat Kent (OH) Roosevelt by a score of 65-14.  Smith ran for 92 yards on seven carries and scored twice.  On the season, he has 779 yards on 70 carries (10.8 YPC) and at least 10 touchdowns.  Howland is now 4-1.

September 28, 2012:  Howland smoked Lispon (OH) Beaver, 37-14.  Smith gained 145 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns on runs of 3, 51 and 10 yards.  142 of Smith’s 145 yards came in the first half of the game.  On the season, Smith now has 921 rushing yards and at least 13 touchdowns.  Howland is now 5-1.

October 5, 2012:  Howland defeated Poland (OH) Poland Seminary by a score of 26-7.  Smith ran for 150 yards and three touchdowns on runs of 13, 5, and 19 yards.  Howland is now 6-1.

October 12, 2012:  Howland was defeated by Niles (OH) Mckinley by a score of 17-10.  Smith had 140 yards on 22 carries, one touchdown and one fumble in the game.  Smith now has 1,311 yards and at least 17 touchdowns this season.  Howland is now 6-2.

October 19, 2012:  Howland beat Canfield (OH) Canfield by a score of 31-17.  Smith ran for 282 yards in the game, including a 54-yard touchdown carry.  Now with a total of 6,461 yards in his high school career, Smith is Trumbell County’s all-time rushing leader.  Howland is 7-2 as they prepare to take on Struthers (OH) Struthers in their final regular season game.  Smith’s team is in position to win it’s sixth consecutive league championship.

November 2, 2012:  Howland was defeated 42-16 by Chardon (OH) Chardon.  In his last game as a Howland Tiger, Smith finished with 147 yards on 23 carries and both of his team’s touchdowns.  Howland finishes 7-3.  Smith ends the year with 1,740 yards and 20 touchdowns.
