Pro Football Focus put out a mock draft that has the Lions getting Jaylen Waddle and the Falcons taking Kwity Paye at #14 overall (LINK).
PFF also ranked all the projected starting quarterbacks in the country (LINK). Dylan McCaffrey is in the middle of the pack, but Michigan State’s duo of Rocky Lombardi and Theo Day is #118 out of 130.

This is another post evaluating Dylan McCaffrey and whether or not he should win the starting job in 2020. You can find the first post here (LINK).
As a reminder, I awarded grades on the following scale:
+1: Good play that not everyone can make
0: Average play that an average player can make
-1: Poor play
PLAY 1 (LINK): This is a slant (or snag) RPO where McCaffrey is reading the backside inside linebacker. When the linebacker comes up to support the run, McCaffrey pulls the ball from the running back’s belly, resets his feet, and throws to the slot receiver (Giles Jackson). It’s the right read, albeit for a moderate gain, and the play is made more difficult because right guard Stephen Spanellis whiffs on his block. McCaffrey throws the ball accurately despite being hit by a defensive tackle. McCaffrey grade: +1
Hit the jump for the rest of his performance against Notre Dame and then Maryland.
Much has been made of the 2020 quarterback battle between Dylan McCaffrey and Joe Milton. I did a post analyzing McCaffrey (LINK) and plan to do more, but in an effort to handicap the race, I wondered how many Michigan quarterbacks have taken over the starting job after being the #3 (or lower) in the previous season, or ever.
Naturally, with the departure of a starting quarterback, people start to argue about who will take over the role. The battle for starting QB in 2020 appears to be down to Dylan McCaffrey vs. Joe Milton. We’ve only had limited exposure to both, but I thought I would take some time to examine what we’ve seen from them. I’ll start off with how McCaffrey performed against Middle Tennessee in the 2019 season opener.

I awarded grades on the following simple scale:
+1: Good play that not everyone can make
0: Average play that an average player can make
-1: Poor play
PLAY 1 (LINK): I hated this play from the minute I saw it. Michigan lines up McCaffrey out wide, puts him in motion (which brings attention to the fact that the backup QB is in the game!), does a crappy play fake, and then throws the ball to McCaffrey on an inside screen. I don’t like inside screens, anyway, but this was a poor play design. On top of that, redshirt freshman Jalen Mayfield – who played well during the year but struggled in his first start – pass sets to nobody, so it screws up the timing of an already bad play. McCaffrey grade: N/A
Hey, Magnus. I appreciate your comments here and over at MGo. I was wondering what you think about JT Daniels and if Michigan should go after him. I know Michigan recruited him back in high school, but Michigan hasn’t had luck with transfers in the past. Is it worth the risk of chasing off D-Caff, Milton, and potentially JJ McCarthy? I’ll hang up and listen.
