Here’s a quick look at the 2020 prospects Michigan has in the fold so far (links go to their commitment posts):

Here’s a link to the 2019 Scholarship Count (LINK), which shows that Michigan will haveĀ at least 16 spots open in the 2020 class.

OFF THE BOARD

Jaheem Joseph – CB – Opa Locka (FL) Monsignor Pace: Joseph committed to Northwestern, which is an odd choice for a 3-star Florida prospect so early in the process. Northwestern is a great school and a solid football program, but I would not be surprised if he shakes loose before he signs.

Elias Ricks – CB – Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei: Ricks is a 5-star, the #1 cornerback, and #9 overall player in the country, and as a Mater Dei product, he naturally chose . . . LSU? Okay, this makes sense because LSU produces a ton of talented players, but USC is a more traditional destination for Mater Dei grads. He’s thinking outside the box with this decision.

Derek Wingo – LB – Fort Lauderdale (FL) Saint Thomas Aquinas: Wingo committed to Penn State. He’s a 4-star, the #10 outside linebacker, and #199 overall.

Here’s a look at the expected visitors for the upcoming BBQ at the Big House.

2019

Matthew Akuchie – WR – Ft. Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas: Akuchie is a 6’2″, 190 lb. prospect who claims 4.75 speed.

Erick All – TE – Fairfield (OH) Fairfield: All is committed to Michigan (LINK).

Karsen Barnhart – OT – Paw Paw (MI) Paw Paw: Barnhart is committed to Michigan (LINK).

Bryce Benhart – OT – Lakeville (MN) North:

John Branham, Jr. – RB – Columbus (OH) Northland: Branahm is a 5’10”, 218 lb. prospect with offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, and Pitt, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #52 running back, and #832 overall. He’s the older brother of 2020 Michigan commit Kalil Branham.

Zach Carpenter – OG – Cincinnati (OH) Moeller: Carpenter is committed to Michigan (LINK).

Isaiah Foskey – TE – Concord (CA) De La Salle: Foskey is a 6’5″, 240 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Penn State, UCLA, and USC, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #5 tight end, and #177 overall. He was offered as a freshman by the Michigan staff, and he attends the alma mater of former Michigan tight end Devin Asiasi (who transferred to UCLA after one season in Ann Arbor).

Daxton Hill – S – Tulsa (OK) Booker T. Washington: Hill is a 6’0″, 187 lb. prospect with offers from virtually every big-time program in the country. He’s a 5-star, the #1 safety, and #8 overall. His crystal ball picks are 80% in favor of Oklahoma. UPDATE: Hill is no longer planning to visit for the BBQ.

Jamal Hill – S – Morrow (GA) Morrow: Hill is a 6’2″, 190 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan, and Pitt, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #66 safety, and #870 overall. As a junior in 2017, he made 67 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, and 16 pass breakups.

2020 Recruiting Update: Defense

Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei CB Elias Ricks (image via Maxpreps)

I haven’t done one of these 2020 recruiting updates in a while, because it seems like there’s so much action with the current recruiting class. But here’s a huge dump of information on the 2020 recruits on the defensive side of the ball, along with some guys who committed to other schools.

COMMITMENT

Columbus (OH) Northland wide receiver Kalil Branham committed to Michigan (LINK).

Belleville (MI) Belleville cornerback Andre Seldon, Jr. committed to Michigan (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2020

Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas defensive end Devon Betty was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 190 lb. prospect with offers from Ohio State, Oklahoma, and South Carolina, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #5 outside linebacker, and #57 overall. Michigan has made several attempts to get a foothold at Aquinas, but it’s tough sledding at a powerhouse program that every big-time program recruits.

Orlando (FL) Dr. Phillips linebacker Stephen Dix, Jr. was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 205 lb. outside linebacker with offers from Clemson, Florida, and Ohio State, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star, the #23 outside linebacker, and #325 overall. He attends the alma mater of former Michigan commit Demetrius Hart, and it’s where former Michigan tight end Ricardo Miller began his high school career before transferring to Ann Arbor (MI) Pioneer.

Upland (CA) Upland linebacker Justin Flowe, Jr. was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 225-pounder with offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, UCLA, and USC, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 5-star, the #2 outside linebacker, and #4 overall. He’s likely bound for USC, but here are his highlights, anyway:

Highland Springs (VA) Highland Springs safety Malcolm Greene was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’11”, 180 lb. prospect with offers from Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech, among others. He claims a 4.57 forty, a 230 lb. bench, and a 350 lb. squat.
