Name: Trevor Keegan
Height:
6’6″
Weight:
305 lbs.
High school:
Crystal Lake (IL) Crystal Lake
Position:
Offensive guard
Class:
Redshirt junior
Jersey number:
#77
Last year:
I ranked Keegan #25 and said he would be the starting left guard (LINK). He started eleven games at left guard.
TTB Rating:
 81

Keegan, a highly rated offensive tackle recruit, really came on in 2021. After being a part-time player as a redshirt freshman in 2020, he solidified the left guard position, winning it from then fifth year senior Chuck Filiaga. (Filiaga has since transferred to Minnesota for a sixth year.) Keegan was listed at 324 pounds last season and he was a powerful blocker, good enough to be named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten by the coaches and media.

This year Keegan has dropped 19 pounds, presumably to be a little more mobile. There hasn’t been any talk of players pushing him to start, so I think he has the left guard job pinned down for a second year. I think some of the all-conference awards are more career achievement awards when it comes to linemen, so since he was honorable mention last season, he could very well be a Second Team or even First Team All-Big Ten selection this season if the Wolverines have success on offense.

Prediction: Starting left guard

2021 Michigan vs. Rutgers Awards

Brad Hawkins

Let’s see more of this guy on offense . . . A.J. Henning. Henning has been a decent receiver (3 catches, 36 yards) and an outstanding runner (2 rushes, 100 yards, 1 TD) early in the season, but when push came to shove against Rutgers, the coaching staff almost completely ignored him. His only overall touch was on a punt return, and the only attempt to get him the ball on offense was an early fade route on the outside. Michigan needs to make more of a concerted effort to get guys like Henning the ball on the edge.

2021 Season Countdown: #25 Trevor Keegan

Trevor Keegan (image via Shaw Local)

Name: Trevor Keegan
Height:
6’6″
Weight:
324 lbs.
High school:
Crystal Lake (IL) Crystal Lake
Position:
Offensive guard
Class:
Redshirt sophomore
Jersey number:
#77
Last year:
I ranked Keegan #54 and said he would be a backup offensive tackle (LINK). He played in five games on special teams and three games at offensive guard.
TTB Rating:
81

Keegan was a highly rated offensive tackle prospect in the offensive line-heavy 2019 class. It’s been rather curious to see which of those linemen would filter out and which would rise to prominence. Keegan finally seemed to break through a little bit late in the shortened 2020 season. Filling in at times for left guard Chuck Filiaga, Keegan made some nice blocks and seemed like an upgrade in some ways.

Filiaga supposedly had a good off-season, but if you have a neck-and-neck battle, I think you go with the younger guy. Why coach up a fifth year senior when you can potentially get a couple more seasons out of coaching up a redshirt sophomore? My belief is that Keegan will take over the starting left guard position. But because the team has Filiaga and other talented linemen as backups, I have Keegan toward the lower end of my projected starters in order of importance.

Prediction: Starting left guard

2020 Season Countdown: #54 Trevor Keegan

Trevor Keegan (image via MGoBlue)

Name: Trevor Keegan
Height: 6’6″
Weight: 316 lbs.
High school: Crystal Lake (IL) South
Position: Offensive tackle
Class: Redshirt reshman
Jersey number: #77
Last year: I ranked Keegan #92 and said he would redshirt (LINK). He redshirted.
TTB Rating: 81

Keegan went the typical route in 2019 of redshirting as a true freshman. Michigan had four seniors starting on the offensive line, and the two guys battling for the open tackle position were redshirt freshmen with some recruiting hype themselves. Keegan also came in with a body that needed to be reformed a little bit, so I think the redshirt was a good plan.

Now those four senior linemen are gone, and Keegan would seem to have a shot at the open tackle position. He seems unlikely to win that battle against redshirt sophomore Ryan Hayes and others. Of the tackles in that 2019 class, Keegan earned the most practice hype and will probably find himself on the second unit. The staff needs to find out who can play, because there has been some buzz about the potential for Jalen Mayfield to jump to the NFL following his redshirt sophomore season.

Prediction: Backup offensive tackle

Final TTB Ratings for 2019

Daxton Hill

Help out the blog by making purchases at Amazon from links like this one (LINK):

I know it’s a little bit late in the game, but back in the spring, I didn’t have time to review all the senior film for Michigan’s 2019 signees and give them updated TTB Ratings. I did that during the 2019 Season Countdown, so here are the final TTB Ratings for the class of 2019.

S Daxton Hill: 100
He’s the best safety in the class, though it’s an unimpressive safety class overall.

RB Zach Charbonnet: 83 90
As long as he can get/stay healthy, Charbonnet has the potential to be a high draft pick in the future.

DT Chris Hinton, Jr.: 90
He should be an early contributor with high long-term upside.
