Tim Baldwin, Ex-Wolverine

Tim Baldwin, Jr.

Ashburn (VA) Broad Run running back Tim Baldwin, a 2020 prospect, decommitted from Michigan on Monday. He had committed to Michigan back on November 4 (LINK).

This development does not move the needle for me. He’s a 3-star, the #29 running back, and #342 overall. He’s not a bad player, but he’s also not as explosive of a runner as I would like to see Michigan get. I’m still waiting for the Wolverines to get a home run threat at running back, which they have not had in a while.

Magnus, do you see Charbonnet as potentially being that home run threat at running back?

I think Charbonnet has the potential to be a big-play threat, yes. I don’t think he necessarily has the straight-line speed of a Chris Johnson or anything, but he’s the type with the right combination of speed, power, and elusiveness to break big runs. He can run through tackles from guys at the third level, and then he can run away from the chasing linebackers. He has Brandon Minor speed. Minor broke off a few 40+ yard runs in his career, because he ran through people and then nobody could get an angle on him. Given the right confluence of events, some of those runs could have easily been from 60 or 70 yards.

EDIT: For the record, I think Charbonnet is both better and faster than Minor. Just trying to give a somewhat recent comparison.
