Kudos to Gentry for moving to TE to see the field and help the team. He won’t be the first QB to do well at this position, his ht and athleticism can’t hurt.

Bunting sure has filled out. If this translates to blocking him and Butt on the field at once should be a nightmare for opposing DCs.

Butt, Bunting, Gentry, Wheatley and now Asiasi !

And are we going to forget Mckeon and Eubanks? Asiasi, imo, is a lot like Gentry as to athleticism, yet I feel he already has the nasty in him that will make him the true combo as to blocking along with his other skills. I don’t see the nasty in Eubanks, but with him, too, I see another player with a skill set that offers a lot coming in, and remember he made his decision after, according to him, Jay Harbaugh showed me “ways they use the TE I never imagined possible.” They wanted him and like McKeon, I think he might set a year, he is a young man we’ll hear from within the next two years. According to my math, that makes 8. I am guessing jumbo packages with a two TE look. I say look because although it might suggest smash mouth football, players like Eubanks, Gentry and Asiasi are, or will be capable of doing so much out of these formations, types of things Butt already does and although he has already exceeded all expectations, in addition to being the top TE, possibly in the country, he is now taking an active role in teaching those that will play the position after he leaves. Obviously Jim, and now Jay, rather impressive in his own right, see possibilities from this position others obviously do not. I am aware others use the TE, but I’ll be damned if I can think of another staff that has targeted and brought in so many at this position.
After the way he – Harbaugh – manufactured points last season, handicapped to a large degree on just how quickly and to what degree he could install his whole offensive package, I think we’ll see our TEs used in the same manner any team uses a position of strength. As Thunder pointed out we accomplished a whole hell of a lot last season with players pretty much regarded as necessary to put a full 11 on the field. There is no doubt that sooner rather than later we will find out exactly why Jim regards this position as so special and I think opposing defenses will find out at the same time.
It’s possible, as I stated, but I cannot recall another time where we loaded up so heavily on one position. I was going to say, “it should be interesting,” Hell we know it’ll be interesting. And let’s not forget the young man presumed to be next year’s starter at FB was recruited at and played his position.
