Recruiting Update: January 11, 2016

Egg Harbor City (NJ) Cedar Creek RB Bo Melton

COMMITMENT
Rancho Santa Margarita (CA) Catholic wide receiver Dylan Crawford committed to Michigan at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Paintsville (KY) Paintsville linebacker Kash Daniel, a Kentucky commit, was offered by Michigan. Daniel is a 6’1″, 227 lb. prospect who’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #14 inside linebacker, and #400 overall. Daniel played in the Army All-American Bowl. He committed to Kentucky on this past Fourth of July, and as an early enrollee, he said he’s solid with the Wildcats.

Sachse (TX) Sachse cornerback Jared Mayden decommitted from Oregon. Mayden is a 6’1″, 190 lb. prospect who is heavily considering Florida State and LSU at this point. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #10 cornerback, and #128 overall. Mayden committed to Oregon in July and took an official visit to Michigan in September, but it does not appear the Wolverines are an option at this point. He played in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl last week.

Hit the jump for another 2016 player added to the board, some new 2017 offers, some guys who committed elsewhere, and some random bits.

Six Things to Watch in the 2016 U.S. Army All-American Bowl

Dylan Crawford could be Michigan’s next commit

COMMITMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Michigan has a couple targets who will be announcing their college commitment at the game. While it’s always fun to watch any recruits commit, because weird things tend to happen, Wolverines fans have some stake in watching. Here are the relevant announcements to watch:

  • Donnie Corley – WR – Detroit (MI) King: Several teams have been in the mix for Corley, including Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Tennessee. Lately, Michigan State and Ohio State seem to have pulled ahead of the pack. There are some rumors that OSU is holding out for Florida wideout Binjimen Victor, so Michigan State is a strong contender. Announcement will be during the 3rd quarter.
  • Dylan Crawford – WR – Rancho Santa Margarita (CA) Catholic: Crawford was high on Michigan early in the process, but things seemed to fall off when friends Theo Howard and K.J. Costello committed elsewhere. Costello, a Stanford commit, was Crawford’s QB this past year. Crawford was waiting for an Oregon offer, got one, and then saw his spot supposedly get taken. Michigan might not have started out #1 on his list, but it’s not a bad backup plan. Announcement will be during the 1st quarter.
  • Isaac Nauta – TE – Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy: Nauta was Michigan’s first offer in the 2016 class (back when Brady Hoke was the head coach), and eventually he committed to Florida State. Since that time, FSU stole a possible Michigan lean in TE Naseir Upshur, and now Nauta seems poised to commit to his home-state Georgia Bulldogs. Nauta has family in Michigan and would be a better fit in a Jim Harbaugh offense than virtually anywhere else in the country, but it sounds like he wants to stay close to home. Announcement will be during the 4th quarter.

Recruiting Update: November 25, 2015

Baltimore (MD) Gilman QB Kasim Hill (image via Maxpreps)

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Waterford (MI) Mott wide receiver Desmond Fitzpatrick decommitted from Louisville. Fitzpatrick, who holds a Michigan offer and is a former teammate of linebacker commit David Reese, is expected to commit to Nebraska at this point. At one time he was considered likely to flip to Michigan, but the staff seemed to cool on him. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #53 wide receiver, and #272 overall.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Cincinnati (OH) St. Xavier offensive guard Matt Bockhorst was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 290 lb. prospect with offers from Clemson, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Penn State, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #7 offensive guard, and #293 overall. He is thought to be pretty open at this point in his recruiting process. Bockhorst is a thickly built kid who will probably end up playing on the interior due to a lack of foot quickness.

Hit the jump for a few more 2017 prospects, a new 2018 offer, some guys who went off the board, some random bits, and the visitor list for the OSU game.

Recruiting Update: October 28, 2015

South Jordan (UT) Bingham DT Jay Tufele

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Winter Garden (FL) West Orange wide receiver Eddie McDoom was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’11”, 170 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #65 wide receiver, and #392 overall. As a junior in 2014, he caught 47 passes for 854 yards and 15 touchdowns. McDoom is a speedy receiver who adjusts well to the ball in the air, which is something Michigan lacks. He is expected to stay in SEC country.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Pittsburgh (PA) Central Catholic offensive guard Chris “C.J.” Thorpe was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’2″, 308 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona State, Auburn, Penn State, and Pitt, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #6 offensive guard, and #220 overall. He is also a teammate of 2016 defensive back Damar Hamlin, who is expected to commit to Ohio State sooner or later. Some sites list him as a defensive tackle, but I think he might be a little too stiff to play defense. However, he is a very violent and relentless blocker on offense who has good foot quickness, if not ideal flexibility.

Hit the jump for another few 2017 offers, a 2018 offer, some guys who went off the board, and some other bits.

Visitors: Michigan vs. Michigan State

Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy tight end Isaac Nauta is one of many elite players scheduled to be in town.

I have shortened down some of the writeups this week for the sheer number of prospects visiting. It’s a huge recruiting opportunity for Michigan.

2016
Korey Banks – WR – Tyrone (GA) Sandy Creek: Banks committed to North Carolina in July after being offered by the Wolverines. He unofficially visited in the spring and reportedly had a great visit, but the Tarheels pulled him in, anyway. Michigan was initially recruiting him as a wide receiver, although he could also play cornerback.

Donnie Corley – WR – Detroit (MI) King: Corley said he will probably make it. He is strongly considering both Michigan and Michigan State, so it would make sense for him to check out the game.

Dylan Crawford – WR – Rancho Santa Margarita (CA) Catholic: This is Crawford’s official visit.

Hit the jump for lots and lots more visitors.
