Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: Ryan Glasgow

It’s tough to make a name for yourself at nose tackle, but Ryan Glasgow heard his name mentioned several times on Sunday. The Cincinnati Bengals nose man had 5 tackles in a 29-14 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Goodbye, Jarrod Wilson

The University of Michigan football team hosts Rutgers at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Nov. 7, 2015.

HIGH SCHOOL
Wilson attended Akron (OH) Buchtel where he was coached by former Michigan running back Ricky Powers. I initially gave him a TTB Rating of 89 (LINK), although that was downgraded slightly to an 88 by the end of the 2012 recruiting cycle (LINK). He was a 247 Composite 4-star, the #13 safety, and #236 overall.

COLLEGE
Wilson was a backup to the duo of Thomas Gordon and Jordan Kovacs as a true freshman, but he still played in thirteen games and made 8 tackles with 1 fumble recovery. He was an eight-game starter and made 50 tackles, 2 TFLs, 2 INTs, and 2 PBUs. After Gordon graduated, Wilson became a starter at safety and responded with 50 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 Ff, and 2 PBUs in ten games. Once again a full-time starter in 2015, he finished his career with 61 tackles, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, and 3 pass breakups.

Oddly, Michigan held its Pro Day yesterday and not much was said about it. The hypemaster himself, Jim Harbaugh, didn’t drum up a lot of a media attention for once, so very little news has trickled out so far. Maybe he didn’t want to try to overshadow the Michigan basketball game against Notre Dame.

Anyway, a recap from Gil Brandt can be found here (LINK) and I’ll update news as more things come. I do expect other news, including about Sione Houma, Desmond Morgan, Joe Bolden, James Ross III, and others.

Hit the jump for the compiled results.

Spring Football Preview: Safeties

Dymonte Thomas 751x

Dymonte Thomas

Projected starters: Senior Delano Hill started eight games this past season, making 46 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, and 2 pass breakups. He is a decent tackler when stepping up to support the run, but he has yet to make much of an impact in the passing game and does not flash great speed. He is the odds-on favorite to be Michigan’s strong safety. At free safety, fellow senior Dymonte Thomas has the inside track after starting four games, making 24 tackles, and breaking up 7 passes. He has better speed and makes more plays against the pass, but he is not quite so stout against the run.

Hit the jump for more on the safety position.
