2026 Season Countdown: #66-70

Alister Vallejo

#66. Kainoa Winston – S – Washington (DC) Gonzaga: Winston played in one game in 2025 and enters his second year as a 5’11”, 204 lb. safety. He was a hyped recruit who I thought would get a little more playing time in 2025, but for whatever reason, that didn’t happen. Winston now has a chance to use his speed and hitting ability with the new coaching staff and compete with a variety of safety options. I will be interested to see if defensive coordinator Jay Hill sees him more as a nickel or a safety, but Michigan has several safety/nickel types who will likely be moving on after this year (Chris Bracy, Rod Moore, Smith Snowden, etc.) and the coaches will probably start to prepare some of these young guys for more significant roles in 2027.

#67. Alister Vallejo – DT – Liberty Hill (TX) Liberty Hill: Vallejo is a 6’3″, 310 lb. freshman whom a lot of people have compared to Mason Graham. Graham was a first year contributor back in 2022, but he played against better competition in high school. Vallejo (4-star, #23 DL, #212 overall) has some similar skills but may need a little more time to percolate. I expect him to work his way into the rotation this season, and it’s nice to see that he’s a playable size. Some defensive tackle prospects come in at around 270 pounds or so and then they just can’t even see the field for a while. By the end of the season, I think Vallejo will be a pretty steady contributor as a backup.

#68. Jeremiah Lowe – CB – Lexington (KY) Frederick Douglass: Lowe is a 5’11”, 180 lb. player entering his third season in a Michigan uniform. He has only played two games in his career, but he made 2 interceptions in the 2025 spring game and there’s an opportunity in a revamped secondary. He could play on special teams and may find a backup role on defense. Michigan has some good players returning and brought in Smith Snowden from Utah, so there’s some healthy competition for playing time in the secondary.

#69. Jamarion Vincent – CB – Waco (TX) Connally: Vincent is a 6’2″, 170 lb. corner who was kind of a quiet late addition to Michigan’s class. After flipping from Baylor to Michigan in late November 2025, he then enrolled early and earned some buzz during spring ball. Obviously, there were other headlines this off-season for Michigan, but normally I feel like Michigan stealing the #150 recruit late in the cycle would generate a little more excitement. His lack of bulk may hold him back in 2026, but some situational seasoning may take place to see if he can solidify a role for 2027.

#70. Manuel Beigel – OG – (CT) Choate Rosemary Hall: Beigel is a 6’5″, 312 lb. player entering his third year. He spent his first two seasons playing defensive line, but the new coaching staff moved him to offensive line this off-season. If offensive line coach Jim Harding sees something in him, then that’s probably a good sign that the position switch is a good idea for his development. Beigel played in seven games last season and recovered a fumble on defense. It’s not clear how much of a factor he’ll be in 2026 and I would guess it will be at least 2027 before we see anything significant from him on offense, but the 2025 coaching staff started to get his feet wet. It will be interesting to see if the transplanted Utah staff also tries to keep him involved.

2025 Season Countdown: #71-75

Jadyn Davis (image via USA Today)

75. QB Jadyn Davis (RS Fr.): Davis was the #112 overall prospect in the class of 2024, but going into his second year at Michigan, he still has a lot of mechanical things to improve, particularly his long delivery. I would have ranked him higher in this year’s countdown if not for the late arrival of Jake Garcia, but I think Garcia’s college experience will push him ahead. My guess is that Davis will be #4 on the depth chart behind Bryce Underwood, Mikey Keene, and Garcia. Last year’s rank: #97.

74. TE Deakon Tonielli (RS So.): Well, I overshot Last year on Tonielli, ranking him #45 and thinking he would be essentially the #3 tight end behind Colston Loveland and Marlin Klein. Instead, Hogan Hansen took that role while Tonielli earned Scout Team Player of the Week honors twice. This year it seems like the tight end role will be diminished a little bit, and also there has been an emergence of Jalen Hoffman at the H-back position. I would also like to see Tonielli a little heavier on the fall roster, because he was 6’5″, 238 lbs. on the spring roster. Last year’s rank: #45.

73. CB Jeremiah Lowe (RS Fr.): Lowe didn’t play at all in 2024, taking a redshirt. This spring he was listed at 5’11” and 177 lbs. and was sort of an afterthought with the arrival of early enrollee Shamari Earls and a couple transfers in the defensive backfield. Lowe then made 2 interceptions in the spring game to put himself on the radar. I’m not ready to buy into him being a heavy contributor in Michigan’s defense, but there were plays to be made in the spring game and he made them. (He also had another nice pass breakup that was almost an interception.) Perhaps we’ll see him play a backup role in the hopes of becoming a bigger contributor in 2026. Last year’s rank: #107.

72. OT Ty Haywood (Fr.): Haywood is just a freshman, and it’s tough to get on the field as a freshman offensive lineman. However, he was #39 overall in the 247 Composite and flipped from Alabama. He’s a legit player but might need some time to develop after enrolling over the summer (unlike classmate Andrew Babalola who arrived in January). I don’t expect Haywood to compete for a starting job in 2025, but he could have an Andrew Sprague-like freshman year where he shows up late and then vies for a starting job in 2026.

71. RB C.J. Hester (RS Jr.): Hester is a transfer from UMass and led the Minutemen in rushing attempts in 2024, running 119 times for 529 yards and 4 touchdowns. At 5’11” and 195 pounds, he’s an adequate back but not particularly fast, elusive, or powerful. Michigan has a deep but largely unproven backfield this season, and Hester will probably be a relatively minor contributor behind Jordan Marshall and Justice Haynes.

2024 Season Countdown: #107 Jeremiah Lowe

Jeremiah Lowe (image via MGoBlog)

Name: Jeremiah Lowe
Height:
5’11”
Weight:
170 lbs.
High school:
Lexington (VA) Frederick Douglass
Position:
Cornerback
Class:
Freshman
Jersey number:
N/A
Last year:
Lowe was a senior in high school. He made 25 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 interception, and 1 forced fumble.
TTB Rating:
49

Lowe committed to Michigan in August 2023, and I was so busy at the time that I didn’t have the bandwidth to create a commitment post. It didn’t help that Lowe was a totally under-the-radar recruit, what with the Wolverines having to battle the likes of Boston College, Marshall, and Ohio University for him. He ended up ranked as a 3-star, the #107 cornerback, and #1172 overall in the 247 Composite.

Michigan actually has a pretty good hit rate on recruits ranked in that area; players lower than him in their respective classes include Nolan Ulizio, Brandent Englemon, Patrick Omameh, and Ronnie Bell, among others. So it’s not a gimme that such lowly ranked players are going to flop. But there are also plenty of players in that range who disappeared into the mist, such as Greg Brown, Marques Walton, and Dytarious Johnson.

I probably would have ranked him Lowe . . . -er than #107 if Michigan had landed four transfer portal defensive backs earlier rather than just in the past two weeks, so that’s the way the cookie crumbles. With a weak recruiting profile and at just 170 pounds, I would be very surprised to see him get on the field this fall. Long-term, he seems to have perhaps the upside of a Darnell Hood, someone who came to Michigan as a running back, switched to defensive back, and was mostly just a solid special teams player throughout his career.

Burley (ID) Burley WR Gatlin Bair may head to Ann Arbor for the OSU game

2024 PROSPECTS

Gatlin Bair – WR – Burley (ID) Burley: Bair is a 6’2″, 195-pounder who is committed to Boise State, who just fired head coach Andy Avalos. Bair is headed on a two-year Mormon mission after high school, so he will basically end up being a 2026 prospect. Bair is also considering Michigan and Oregon, along with BSU. He’s a 4-star, the #10 WR, and #40 overall. This visit is a possibility, but not set in stone at this point.

Zaquan Patterson – S – Hollywood (FL) Chaminade-Madonna: Patterson is a 6’0″, 185 lb. prospect who is committed to Miami. He’s a teammate of 2025 Michigan commit Chris Ewald. Patterson is a 4-star, the #5 safety, and #70 overall.
