2022 Season Countdown: #92 Kraig Correll

Kraig Correll

Name: Kraig Correll
Height:
6’4″
Weight:
311 lbs.
High school:
Easton (PA) Blair Academy
Position:
Offensive guard
Class:
Fifth year senior
Jersey number:
#54
Last year:
I ranked Correll #91 and said he would be a backup offensive guard (LINK). He played in one game.
TTB Rating:
N/A

Correll was a fairly highly touted walk-on a few years ago. Now that he’s been on campus for four seasons, that has turned into exactly one game played. The truth is that Michigan’s offensive line (and offensive line recruiting) has been pretty good, so they haven’t needed to reach deep down the depth chart to try to find other contributors.

Correll is unlikely to move up the depth chart too much in 2022. Even with a small offensive line class in 2022, Michigan should have a pretty solid two-deep. But it’s certainly nice to have a stout fifth year senior on the scout team to give decent reps to the guys who are higher on the depth chart.

Prediction: Backup offensive guard

I thought Correll might be one of those walk-on offensive linemen who eventually worked his way into the two-deep. He has good size at 6’4″ and 310 lbs., and he had a pretty good recruiting profile. But when 2020 came and went – with injuries galore up front – and Correll never saw the field, that seemed to signal where he is on the depth chart. I have not heard any buzz about Correll pushing for playing time, and there are generally about two or three names discussed for the center spot without including him.

Prediction: Backup center

2020 Season Countdown: #97 Kraig Correll

Kraig Correll

Name: Kraig Correll
Height:
6’4″
Weight:
296 lbs.
High school:
Easton (PA) Blair Academy
Position:
Center
Class:
Redshirt sophomore
Jersey number:
#54
Last year:
I ranked Correll #105 and said he would be a backup center (LINK). He did not see any game action.
TTB Rating:
N/A

As Correll enters his third year on campus, he finds himself battling to stay relevant as a backup interior lineman. One obstacle jumped out of the way when fellow walk-on Jess Speight moved over to defensive tackle in the middle of last season, but more remain: redshirt freshman Zach Carpenter, fifth year senior Andrew Vastardis, and others.

I do not expect Correll to contribute this season, but he had solid high school film and looks like a guy who should at least be able to offer a look on the scout team. With some decent fellow walk-ons and a good number of scholarship guys, Correll looks like a depth guy moving forward.

Prediction: Backup center

I apologize for not posting more recently. With some personal stuff going on, there just hasn’t been enough time to get everything done, so writing went on the back burner a little bit. I know we don’t all know each other, but any positive vibes you can send in the direction of my family and me would be appreciated.

It’s tough for walk-on linemen to see the field at a school like Michigan unless your last name is Glasgow, so Correll is likely bound for the bottom depths of the chart. However, he has good size for a lineman and I liked his film coming out of high school, at least to the extent of being a potential option with some development down the road. There was no buzz about Correll this off-season – while a couple other walk-ons did get some attention – but it’s still just going into his redshirt freshman season. He should make a solid practice player at a position (center) where smarts and toughness sometimes trump size and athleticism.
