Thoughts on 2017 Under Armour All-American Game

Yesterday was the 2017 Under Armour All-American Game, which I was able to sit down and patiently watch for the first time in years. Here I’ve collected some thoughts on the Michigan commits who played, as well as some other relevant guys.

COMMITS

Jaylen Kelly-Powell – S – Detroit (MI) Cass Tech: There were reports throughout the week that Kelly-Powell was playing some cornerback and struggling. He ended up playing safety in the game, but he lined up in man coverage on slot receivers at times, too. He didn’t play a great deal, but when he did, he wasn’t great or terrible. He had some decent coverage a couple times and didn’t register on the stat sheet from what I saw.

Kwity Paye – DE – Warwick (RI) Bishop Hendricken: Paye didn’t start, but he played a fair amount as a rotation guy in the first half. He showed some quickness off the edge and made a TFL when chasing the ball from the back side, though he was unblocked on the play. He also had a QB hurry that forced an incompletion. Paye has some quickness, but he gives up on plays too easily. That happened in practice and in the game. He needs to play with more tenacity. I did not hear about any injuries to him, but for whatever reason, I did not see him in the second half of the game.

The 2017 Under Armour All-American Game will be played on January 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. The broadcast will be on ESPN. Here’s a list of Michigan players who have been UA All-Americans over the years (LINK). Here are the players on this year’s respective rosters who have been offered by Michigan:

Warwick (RI) Bishop Hendricken defensive end Kwity Paye flipped his commitment from Boston College to Michigan.

Paye is listed at 6’4″, 235 lbs. and claims a 4.75 forty. As a junior in 2015, he made 68 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 blocked field goal; he also carried the ball 19 times for 244 yards (12.8 yards/carry) and 8 touchdowns. This season he has 23 carries for 422 yards (18.3 yards/carry) and 6 scores.

Visitors: Michigan vs. Wisconsin

This might be Michigan’s biggest recruiting weekend of the year, since the MSU and OSU games are on the road. So here’s an early list of the visitors headed to Ann Arbor.

2017

Jordan Anthony – LB – Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy: Anthony is a 6’0″, 220 lb. prospect with offers from Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Penn State, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #7 outside linebacker, and #115 overall. Though he has played the last couple seasons in Florida, he’s a Maryland native. The Crystal Ball is 40% in favor of Michigan. This is his official visit.

~~Markquese Bell – S – Bridgeton (NJ) Bridgeton:~~ I did a scouting report on Bell in April (LINK). He tweeted not long ago that distance is no longer a factor in his decision, which has made some people think that he’s leaning away from Rutgers and perhaps toward Michigan. UPDATE: Bell is no longer planning to visit.

~~Kenney “K.J.” Britt – LB – Oxford (AL) Oxford:~~ Britt is a 6’0″, 232 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, and Michigan, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #15 inside linebacker, and #317 overall. So far his Crystall Ball is 67% for Auburn and 33% for Georgia. UPDATE: Britt is no longer planning to visit.
