Markus Allen, Ex-Wolverine

Clayton (OH) Northmont WR Markus Allen

Clayton (OH) Northmont wide receiver Markus Allen decommitted from Michigan on Wednesday. He committed back in April (LINK).

I was not super high on Allen as a recruit, so my concern level here is pretty low. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #68 wide receiver, and #455 overall. He is a teammate of safety Rod Moore, who is committed to Michigan, and I do wonder if Allen’s change of heart will affect Moore.

Michigan will probably jump back into receiver recruiting since it looked like they were finished. Before Michigan secured a commitment from in-stater Andrel Anthony (LINK), they were pretty hard after Georgia product Jayden Thomas.

Markus Allen, Wolverine

Clayton (OH) Northmont WR Markus Allen (image via Pittsburgh Gazette)

Clayton (OH) Northmont wide receiver Markus Allen committed to Michigan on Tuesday, and he is not to be confused with former USC Heisman winner and NFL running back Marcus Allen, nor former Penn State safety Marcus Allen. He picked the Wolverines over offers from Indiana, Pitt, Purdue, and West Virginia, among others.

Allen is listed at 6’2″ and 190 lbs. He made 51 receptions for 1,099 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior in 2019.

Visitors: March 13-15, 2020

UPDATE: It appears that all campus visits will be suspended due to coronavirus concerns, so these visits will probably not be happening now.

2021

Markus Allen – WR – Clayton (OH) Northmont: Allen is a 6’2″, 190 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Pitt, and Wisconsin, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star and the #141 wide receiver. He attends the alma mater of Michigan redshirt freshman Gabe Newburg.

Rod Moore – S – Clayton (OH) Northmont: Moore is a 5’11”, 170-pounder with offers from Cincinnati, Maryland, and Pitt, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star and the #72 safety. As a junior in 2019, he made 85 tackles, 4 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries. He’s a teammate of Allen (see above).

2022

Holden Geriner – QB – Savannah (GA) Benedictine: Geriner is a 6’3″, 195 lb. prospect with offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, and Georgia. He does not yet have a Michigan offer, but one could be forthcoming. He plans to visit next week.

Recruiting Update: February 12, 2020

SITE NEWS UPDATE: Thanks to Brian, Michael D., Michael Z., Moser, Oday, and Sean for your generous donations! As of Tuesday afternoon, I have collected $526.02 of the $1,250 bill for Flywheel’s hosting services for the year (LINK).

The Detroit News talked to 2020 recruits about a few things, including why they didn’t choose Michigan/Michigan State (LINK). It’s always interesting reading these responses.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2021

Markus Allen – WR – Clayton (OH) Northmont: Allen is a 6’2″, 190 lb. prospect with offers from Cincinnati and Pitt, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star, the #125 wide receiver, and #796 overall. He claims a 4.62 forty. Northmont is the alma mater of Michigan defensive end Gabe Newburg, but Allen recently transferred to Northmont, so the two players don’t know each other.

Khalil Dinkins – WR – Wexford (PA) North Allegheny: Dinkins is a 6’4″, 207-pounder with offers from a couple MAC schools. He’s a 3-star, the #74 athlete, and #829 overall. He has some solid ball skills, but I think with his size and the way he moves, he will probably end up as an H-back or outside linebacker. He reminds me of former Wolverine Ricardo Miller.
