Let’s see more of this guy on offense . . . Hassan Haskins. Haskins had 20 carries for 149 yards. This is just an affirmation of his fantastic overall play over the past few weeks, not necessarily a request to see him get more than 20 carries. Those 20 attempts included a 49-yard run, a highlight-reel hurdle, and lots of broken tackles. He’s averaging 6.2 yards per carry on the year.

There’s a lot that we could get into with the new offense, so I think it might be best to just go position-by-position on that side of the ball.
The two-quarterback thing needs to be nixed. Jim Harbaugh and Josh Gattis are probably trying to make Dylan McCaffrey happy by putting him on the field with Shea Patterson, but it’s a bad move. The offense isn’t in sync when both are on the field. Whoever’s behind center is late getting the play off, and then they threw an inside screen to McCaffrey, who was immediately swarmed under by big guys. Why put your lanky backup QB in a situation where he catches a ball three yards away from 250+ pound defensive linemen and linebackers?

Dwumfour created some buzz over the past couple years, and we’ve all heard the comparisons by now: he’s another Maurice Hurst, Jr. If you’re another Hurst, you’re going to be a starter and make a bunch of plays, right? Well, Dwumfour played in every game (starting just two) and made 21 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. Maybe the Hurst comparison makes sense because of the comparative lack of size (Dwumfour is 6’2″, 282; Hurst was 6’2″, 280 on the roster as a senior). As a redshirt sophomore, Hurst made 35 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks, so the numbers are somewhat similar, too, when you account for the fact that Hurst played more.
The 2019 season presents a huge opportunity for Dwumfour. Bryan Mone, Lawrence Marshall, and Aubrey Solomon are out of the way, and Dwumfour is the elder statesman of the defensive line. Ideally, I would like to rank Michigan’s starting defensive tackle higher in the countdown, but I can’t quite convince myself to do that. He hasn’t flashed in the way I would expect for a future star, and he has been very inconsistent. Injuries have also been a problem, especially in the off-season, and I think it’s hard to reach your potential when you’re always having setbacks. I acknowledge the possibility that Dwumfour could be a stud and explosively slice into opposing backfields regularly, but with him I’ll have to see it before I believe it.
Prediction: Starting defensive tackle
There’s some pretty serious hype about Mike Sainristil (LINK).
Donovan Peoples-Jones and Michael Dwumfour are both injured (LINK). That’s not good. Peoples-Jones is a potential star, and Dwumfour plays a spot where there’s not much experience or depth.
Michigan is losing analyst Tanner Engstrand to Pep Hamilton’s XFL staff (LINK).
