Recruiting Snapshot: Michigan State

2024 CLASS RANKING
#61 nationally, #17 in Big Ten. The Spartans have 13 commits (two 4-stars, eleven 3-stars).

CREAM OF THE 2024 CROP
The top-ranked high school recruit for the Spartans is River Rouge (MI) River Rouge wide receiver Nick Marsh (4-star, #20 WR, #122 overall). Michigan State has so far fended off other teams’ advances, even though Marsh decommitted for a while, but he now seems solid with the Spartans after they hired former Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith. The other star of the class is another former Beaver in quarterback transfer Aidan Chiles, who is the #1 quarterback in the transfer portal and the #2 player overall. He sat behind D.J. Uiagalelei last season but is a potential star at 6’3″ and 200 lbs. He was the #58 overall player in the class of 2023.

2024 Offensive Recruiting Update: July 9, 2023

Copperas Cove (TX) Copperas Cove offensive tackle Michael Uini poses for a very relevant picture

The month of July is apparently a terrible time to miss a week of recruiting updates for the current class, because over 40 Michigan targets pledged to schools over the past two weeks. To break it up a little bit, I parceled the news into two separate posts: today’s offensive recruiting update and a defensive update coming tomorrow morning.

2024 Recruiting Update: March 8, 2023

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2024

Joshua Lair – S – Missouri City (TX) Fort Bend Marshall: Lair is a 6’2″, 195 lb. prospect with offers from LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and others. Lair is somehow flying under the radar on recruiting services despite being a quick-twitch, hard-hitting athlete. I think he will probably end up being a safety/linebacker hybrid player on the next level.

Jordan Lockhart – LB – Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco: Lockhart is a 6’4″, 230-pounder who was committed to Chris Partridge at Ole Miss but decommitted a couple days ago after Partridge was hired at Michigan. Lockhart is a 4-star, the #27 linebacker, and #343 overall. He also has offers from Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, and others.

Preview of 2024 In-State Recruiting: #1-5

Saline (MI) Saline QB C.J. Carr (image via MLive)

1. C.J. Carr – QB – Saline (MI) Saline
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 195 lbs.
Notable offers: Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State
Commitment: Notre Dame
247 Composite: 4-star, #5 QB, #35 overall
Analysis: Carr is the grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr and the son of former Michigan quarterback Jason Carr, so everyone expected him to pick Michigan. But he went to “The Dark Side” and committed to the Fighting Irish. Rivalries aside, Carr completed 226/339 passes (69%) for 2,697 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions as a junior in 2022. Considered a borderline 5-star prospect, he has good arm strength, excellent accuracy, and decent mobility. He will be a pocket quarterback at the college level. One noteworthy thing from watching his film is that he’s not working with superior athletes at Saline, so many of his throws are to receivers who are well covered.
