Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit’s time! Fighting in the maize and blue corner, it’s . . . the 2019 season predictions. You can check out my 2018 season predictions and how they fared here (LINK).

LEADING RUSHER
I am not confident in this pick whatsoever, but I’m sticking with what I predicted a couple weeks ago: Tru Wilson edges out Zach Charbonnet. Charbonnet is the most talented back to land at Michigan in years, if not decades, so I’m very willing to be wrong on this one. In fact, I want to be wrong. Please prove me wrong by rushing for 850 yards, Zach Charbonnet…
Prediction: Tru Wilson, 700 yards

2019 Season Countdown: #16 Tru Wilson

Tru Wilson (image via MGoBlue)

Name: Tru Wilson
Height:
5’10”
Weight:
200 lbs.
High school:
Warren (MI) De La Salle
Position:
Running back
Class:
Senior
Jersey number:
#13
Last year:
I ranked Wilson #65 and said he would be a backup running back and special teamer (LINK). He ran 62 times for 364 yards (5.9 yards/carry) and 1 touchdown, along with making 6 catches for 34 yards (5.7 yards/catch).
TTB Rating:
N/A

Wilson came out of nowhere to become a very effective running back for the Wolverines last year. After being a Semper Fi All-American coming out of high school, he came to Michigan as a walk-on and dabbled at both running back and safety. He had 1 carry for 1 yard in 2016, zero carries in 2017, and then 62 carries for 364 yards in 2018. Those 62 carries ranked third among running backs (fourth if you count Shea Patterson), and his 5.87 yards per carry was the best average on the team.

2019 Season Countdown: #34 Christian Turner

Christian Turner (image via MGoBlue)

Thanks to Gregory, Paul, Todd, and Nicholas for the generous donations yesterday via Paypal! A brief explanation of my request for donations:

It took me February, March, April, May, and part of June this year to earn what I made in February 2017 alone. Falling ad revenue across the internet (a.k.a. Google AdSense) combined with Google AdSense forcing me to delete “NSFW” content back around the turn of the year has drastically reduced traffic. And in a nutshell, it took me those 4.5 months mentioned above to just pay off Flywheel for hosting the site – not to mention bills for site maintenance and the domain itself. So all donations are appreciated!

Michigan vs. SMU Awards

Donovan Peoples-Jones (image via Michigan Daily)

Let’s see more of this guy on offense . . . Karan Higdon. Higdon was a game-time decision in this game, and he ended up sitting out the contest. The Wolverines struggled to run the football, even if the overall numbers ended up okay due to SMU wearing down in the second half. Leading rusher Chris Evans had 18 carries for 85 to lead the team, but his day ended with his game-high 35-yard run in the third quarter, which saw him grab his right hamstring area and go down. Whether it was a cramp (hopefully) or a hamstring tear, it left Michigan with walk-on Tru Wilson and sophomore O’Maury Samuels handling the load for the remainder of the game. Higdon should be back for next week if he was a game-time decision two days ago, but Michigan needs him back.
