RUSH OFFENSE vs. MSU RUSH DEFENSE

Michigan is #57 in rushing offense (170.7 yards/game) and #76 in rushing average (4.23 yards/carry), but they’re tied for #19 in rushing touchdowns (23), which shows how dedicated they are to the run when they get into the red zone. Freshman Zach Charbonnet (559 yards, 11 TD) and redshirt freshman Hassan Haskins (426 yards, 2 TD) have turned into a nice 1-2 punch in the backfield. The wild card for Michigan is quarterback Shea Patterson, who has been hesitant to keep the ball but already has more rushing touchdowns (5) than last year (2). Michigan State is #16 in rush defense (108 yards allowed/game), even after getting drubbed by Ohio State a few weeks ago, when they gave up 6.83 yards/carry on 49 attempts. Leading tackler Joe Bachie got suspended for the rest of the year for use of PEDs, which is the norm in East Lansing, so the leading available tackler is linebacker Antjuan Simmons (6’0″, 216 lbs.). Simmons and defensive end Kenny Willekes (6’4″, 260) lead the team with 12 and 9 tackles for loss, respectively.

Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: Chris Wormley

Chris Wormley (image via Baltimore Beatdown)

Former Michigan defensive tackle Chris Wormley doesn’t get mentioned in this space very often, but he had one of his best career games on Sunday with 4 tackles and 1 sack in a 49-13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Wormley and the Bengals are now 7-2.

HONORABLE MENTION

  • Devin Bush, Jr., LB (Pittsburgh Steelers): Bush made 3 tackles in a 17-12 win over the St. Louis Rams.
  • Frank Clark, DE (Kansas City Chiefs): Clark made 4 tackles and 1 sack in a 35-32 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
  • Mason Cole, OL (Arizona Cardinals): Cole started at right tackle in a 30-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cole has now started at left guard, center, and right tackle in his career.
  • Maurice Hurst, Jr., DT (Oakland Raiders): Hurst made 2 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss in a 26-24 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
  • Jabrill Peppers, S (New York Giants): Peppers made 6 tackles and 1 pass breakup in a 34-27 loss to the New York Jets.

Visitors: Michigan vs. Michigan State

Theo Johnson (#20, image via DawgNation)

I will be adding tot his list throughout the week.

2020

Blake Corum – RB – Baltimore (MD) St. Frances: Corum is committed to Michigan (LINK).

Theo Johnson – TE – Windsor (Ontario) Holy Names: Johnson is a 6’6″, 242 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, and Penn State, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #3 tight end, and #95 overall. The crystal ball is 60% for Penn State and 40% undecided; it appears to me that if it’s not Penn State, it will be Michigan. This is his last official visit before announcing his decision on November 18.

James Pogorelc – OT – Chantilly (VA) Chantilly: Pogorelc is a 6’7″, 270 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, North Carolina, Stanford, and Virginia, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #31 offensive tackle, and #369 overall. Right now his crystal ball is 100% for Stanford.

Roman Wilson – WR – Honolulu (HI) St. Louis: Wilson is committed to Michigan (LINK). This is his official visit.
