Jeremy Clark to Jets in 6th round (#197 overall)

April 29, 2017

Cornerback Jeremy Clark was drafted by the New York Jets in the 6th round (#197 overall).

This is a very interesting pick, because Clark tore his ACL early in 2016 and was basically forced to leave school when the NCAA didn’t approve his application for a sixth year of eligibility. He showed up at the Combine and did 20 reps on the bench press at 6’3″, 220 lbs., but he couldn’t do anything involving his lower body. Hopefully he can stay healthy, but I will be curious to see whether he plays corner or safety for the Jets.

Very happy for Jeremy Clark. I argued before the season he had a great shot of getting drafted but then expected him back in AA in 2017 after the injury.

Great example of the NFL drafting for potential. I think a lot of athletic players get picked apart once their flaws are expose. Wonder if somebody like Dymonte Thomas or Jabrill Peppers (who wasn’t allowed to) had left a year earlier. I wonder if Clark still gets drafted if he’s Stribling’s backup in 2016.

I think your question regarding his position was likely answered in the first and second round of the NFL Draft (Jets drafted safeties in both rounds). If he plays for the Jets, I’m guessing it will be as a CB, not ahead of the myriad of safeties they now have.

Yeah, you’re probably right. I like the safeties they got. I generally liked the Jets’ draft, but they’re still offensively challenged.
