Former Michigan basketball players Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway, Jr. were traded from the New York Knicks to the Dallas Mavericks in a huge trade involving Kristaps Porzingis (LINK).
The NCAA has banned Missouri from the post-season next season and taken several other steps to impact their recruiting (LINK). Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for UNC, Miami, and Michigan State to see any notable punishments…

The compilation of Simpson’s assists got me to thinking………
Player A is credited with an assist only if Player B scores. However a player like Simpson for example could make a number of great passes, dish-offs, etc that Player B doesn’t score on yet Player A (Simpson for example) get zero credit in the personal stats dept. for making a great play.
Seems that a stat like ‘scoring assist’ as well as an all encompassing ‘assist’ stat might be useful……..
Just an idea; haven’t thought it thru……..INTJohn

I don’t know. Part of your job as a passer is to get the ball to someone who can score. You can make all the fancy passes to Javale McGee you want, but if he’s going to fool around and miss the shot, then you might have been wasting your time getting it to him. So it’s not just about the pass, but it’s about who’s on the other end of that pass. I think I’m okay with the assist stat as it is.

Nah INT there is enough assist padding going on now in the stats as it is.
To your point though great passers are recognized by their peers and do not get credited in the post game stats simply as a creator on the floor.

I’m ok with the assist stat as it is too or if ‘they’ wana get rid of it all together.
Not a big bb fan here at all as I think the rules of the game have a certain definition of philososphical immorality. I pay attention cause Michigan has a great team, program & Head Coach.
i.e its just plain immoral to penalize someone for defending whats theirs (goal). This goes against the innate survival ‘will’ of any Law of Nature. Thus the game is immoral, anti Natural Law at root.
Imagine a Baseball umpire ruling “GOALTENDING! No Home Run when an outfielder snags a fly ball heading over the fence – reaches above or even over, catching the ball and bringing it back for the out; robbing ther hitter of a HR. Or in Hockey – a player is literally placed directly in front of the net to impede any possible scoring opportunity, etc numerous sports – but not BB! Defending your goal is a crime!
I very much appreciate the athleticism of college & professional basketball players – far & away more athletic players top to bottom than in any of the other major us sports; but such athleticism deserves better rules………
and maybe better ‘assist’ stats.
OK, back to coffee……….INTJohn
