When the Detroit Lions aren’t playing in the Super Bowl – which is every damn year – I choose which team to root for by which squad has the most Michigan players. In this case, the numbers are equal. The first tiebreaker is which team has fewer Ohio State players. That distinction goes to the Broncos, so let’s go, Denver!

Your logic for picking non-Lions Super Bowl teams is impeccable. 🙂
I’ve had a soft spot in my heart for the Broncos ever since they drafted Rob Lytle way back in 1977.
That said, I suspect the Carolina Panthers are going to take this game, and not by some small margin. Cam Newton’s head seems to have caught up with his body, and he’s playing lights-out football. Denver’s only hope is that their defense gets to him and rattles him. Carolina’s defense is good enough to cause problems for Manning and Denver. So if Denver, then a low-scoring game; but I suspect it’ll be Carolina, and by 14 or more.

Yeah, I’m expecting Carolina to win, but I’m pulling for the Broncos. The Broncos have a good pass rush, but I’m not sure that will matter as much to Cam Newton as it did to Tom Brady.

Well, I did not really expect the game I saw.
But Denver did what Denver had to do — get to Newton: 7 sacks. Newton never looked like he was in the game.

If I’m a Carolina fan, I’m pretty disappointed with the way Newton played. He missed some wide open guys early in the game, and then he lost his cool in the second half. I’m not a Newton fan, so I was satisfied.

Newton’s body language was maybe the worst i’ve ever seen. My wife even picked up on that. Stuff went wrong early and then kept going wrong as Newton kept looking sadder and sicker. I think the Panthers got jobbed on the incompletion call early. Had they got that catch, there is likely no sack, no fumble and no touchdown on the next play, and Newton starts feeling a little better about things. Maybe it gets exciting at the end.
John Elway has certainly done a magnificent job at Denver, that is as good a defense as anybody has put together in a long time.
Teddy Ginn Jr. does a lot of running out of bounds in order to avoid contact.

Agree … Newton did not maintain his focus. By contrast, Manning looked cool as a cucumber out there.
In the lead-up to this game I was predicting an easy Carolina win, and one of the reasons I cited was “Cam Newton’s head has caught up with his body.” It seemed that way in the playoffs. But in this game he reverted back, it seems.
