What I’ve Been Reading: Spymaster

June 13, 2020

As of this morning, I just finished reading Brad Thor’s Spymaster, the second most recent book in the Scot Harvath series.

If you’ve read Spymaster, you probably agree that it’s a good thing I had already bought the most recent book, Backlash, which I started immediately.

I’ve read series of books before (Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, etc.), but I guess a sign of adulthood is reading a bunch of spy novels and stuff. So here I am (almost) caught up on both the Jack Reacher and Scot Harvath series.

I’m also reading Deliverance by James Dickey and Smarter Faster Better by Charles Duhigg, which I found recently after misplacing it.

What have you been reading?

Thunder – we apparently have similar taste in books. I’ve read all of the Brad Thor and Jack Reacher books also. Since you’re almost done with those series, may I suggest Vince Flynn’s series with main character Mitch Rapp? Very good, page turners. His character (Rapp) is very similar to Brad Thor’s character (Scott Harvath).

I also renewed my interest in the old Tom Clancy series about Jack Ryan. Obviously Clancy passed away a while ago, but they picked up the series with Jack Ryan Jr. as the main character while Jack Ryan Sr. is the president. Some of the old characters from the original books still appear too. I think watching the show on Amazon renewed my desire to catch up on the books – they’re pretty good.

I read the first Mitch Rapp novel, but the dialogue was frustratingly bad. I’ve heard those books get better, though, so I actually have the next book on my dresser but I haven’t opened it yet.

I thought about getting back into Tom Clancy. I read “Clear and Present Danger” and “Rainbox Six” and “Executive Orders” back in the day. Those were good books. I don’t know why I stopped reading them.

      Thanks!

For those that may use a Kindle, reissues of Tom Clancys originals are occasionally heavily discounted. Well worth the read…again. Advantages of using a Kindle include the ability to easily change the text size and mine is back lit, so easy to read in poor lighting.
