Markus Allen, Ex-Wolverine

Clayton (OH) Northmont WR Markus Allen

Clayton (OH) Northmont wide receiver Markus Allen decommitted from Michigan on Wednesday. He committed back in April (LINK).

I was not super high on Allen as a recruit, so my concern level here is pretty low. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #68 wide receiver, and #455 overall. He is a teammate of safety Rod Moore, who is committed to Michigan, and I do wonder if Allen’s change of heart will affect Moore.

Michigan will probably jump back into receiver recruiting since it looked like they were finished. Before Michigan secured a commitment from in-stater Andrel Anthony (LINK), they were pretty hard after Georgia product Jayden Thomas.

Ex-Wolverine Commits: 2020 Pre-Season

Erik Swenson

Earlier this week, I posted about former Michigan players who have transferred (LINK).

Up next is the players who were at one time committed to the Wolverines.

FORMER COMMITS

RB Tim Baldwin (Indiana): Baldwin is listed as a 6’0″, 217 lb. freshman running back at Indiana.

WR Kalil Branham (Kentucky): Branham, listed at 6’1″ and 202 lbs., is expected to be a backup for the Wildcats this season.

WR George Campbell: Campbell spent last year at West Virginia and applied for a sixth year of eligibility, which was not approved by the NCAA. His career ended and it does not look like he has had an NFL opportunity.

Snapshots: SMU “Mesh” Concept vs. Texas State

Shane Buechele (image via 247 Sports)

One of the best matchups of the weekend was the SMU Mustangs vs. the Texas State Bobcats. Even though Texas State has some of the most atrocious uniforms in the country, they both have interesting spread offenses.

I mainly watched to get a feel for Texas State head coach Jake Spavital, who’s a young up-and-comer in his second year as a head man (formerly OC and/or QB coach at places like Cal, Texas A&M, and West Virginia). He was matched up against SMU and head coach Sonny Dykes, his former boss.

I actually came away from the game wanting to break down a pretty simple play, because I didn’t see a ton of “innovation” or new looks this weekend like I did last week with Austin Peay (LINK).

Hit the jump for the rest of the play.

Ex-Wolverine Players: 2020 Pre-Season

Jaylen Kelly-Powell

Please use the Amazon links here at the site to support the blog (LINK):

I always like to keep up with former Michigan players, commits, and coaches. As we go into this crazy 2020 season (or not), here’s a look at where things stand for every Michigan player who has transferred elsewhere. If you want a recap of how their 2019 seasons went, check out this post (LINK).

LB Jordan Anthony: Anthony entered the transfer portal and graduated from Michigan over the summer, but it does not appear that he has picked a landing spot yet.

WR Tarik Black (Texas): In his first season after leaving Ann Arbor, Black is projected to be a backup Z receiver for the Longhorns.

S Brian Cole II: Cole, who was drafted in the 7th round out of Mississippi State, was recently waived by the Vikings.

WR Kekoa Crawford (Cal): Crawford was expected to be a starting receiver for Cal this year, but the Pac-12 canceled/postponed its season.

Hit the jump for more.
