A Note on Content

I’ve had several requests over the past couple days for content regarding last weekend’s game against Minnesota.

And I have bad news.

I haven’t watched the Minnesota game yet. I was busy all day and night on Saturday, and there was more to come on Sunday. I can’t stress enough that yours truly is a football coach. This is my busiest time of the year, and somehow I still manage to write content and get stuff out there most days. I can almost guarantee you that no other blog out there is run by someone who works a full-time job, coaches high school football, and still finds time to put out content every day. I write on my lunch hour, before the crack of dawn, and after most people are in bed.

Believe me when I say that if I can write, I will write. If something doesn’t get posted, it’s not because I’ve forgotten or let it go by the wayside due to laziness. I’m sorry for not posting a game recap and such, but altogether, that’s probably about 4-5 hours of work that I simply don’t have time for this week.

Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: Taco Charlton

Taco Charlton

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Taco Charlton made his first career sack in a 28-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

HONORABLE MENTION

  • This isn’t really honorable mention, but Denver Broncos TE Jake Butt was put on injured reserve and won’t return this season after tearing his ACL in Michigan’s bowl game against Florida State
  • Kansas City Chiefs WR Jehu Chesson made his first career catch, a 10-yarder, in a 28-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys
  • Los Angeles Rams safety Blake Countess made 3 tackles in a 51-17 win over the New York Giants
  • Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess caught 5 passes for 86 yards in a 20-17 win over the Atlanta Falcons
  • Cincinnati Bengals DT Ryan Glasgow made 2 tackles in a 23-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Philadelphia Eagles DE Brandon Graham made 5 tackles in 51-23 win over the Denver Broncos
  • San Francisco 49ers CB Leon Hall made 4 tackles and 1 pass breakup in a 20-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals
  • Baltimore Ravens DT Willie Henry made 4 tackles in a 23-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans
  • Dallas Cowboys CB Jourdan Lewis made 2 tackles in a 28-17 win over the Chiefs
  • San Francisco 49ers OT Erik Magnuson started his first career game in that 20-10 loss to the Cardinals
  • Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls ran 9 times for 39 yards and caught 2 passes for 31 yards in a 17-14 loss to the Washington Redskins

Ex-Wolverine Updates: 2017, Week 10

Shane Morris (image via Alive for Football)

TRANSFERS

Ross Douglas, LB (Rutgers): Douglas made 4 tackles in a 31-24 win over Maryland.

Ahmir Mitchell, WR (Rutgers): Mitchell, who had been sitting out due to an ACL tear, was dismissed from the team in late October for undisclosed reasons.

Shane Morris, QB (Central Michigan): Morris completed 12/30 passes for 243 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions in a back-and-forth, 35-28 win over Western Michigan. He also ran 8 times for 27 yards and 2 scores.

Wyatt Shallman, DE (Ohio): Shallman made 2 tackles in a 45-28 win over Miami-OH on Halloween night.

Logan Tuley-Tillman, OT (UTEP): Tuley-Tillman has been the starting left tackle for the UTEP Miners. Unfortunately for them, they’re 0-9. Along with Georgia Southern, they’re the only winless teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision. No teams went winless in 2016, but Kansas and UCF both achieved that feat in 2015.

Keith Washington, CB (Copiah-Lincoln Community College): Washington made 1 tackle in a 40-21 loss to Pearl River Community College in the season finale. Washington ends his year with 20 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery, 1 forced fumble, and 5 pass breakups. Co-Lin went 4-5 this season.

Preview: Michigan vs. Minnesota

RUSH OFFENSE vs. MINNESOTA RUSH DEFENSE

Michigan is up to #38 in rushing offense (193.4 yards/game) and #57 in yards per carry (4.57). Karan Higdon has taken over the leading role with 604 yards and 8 touchdowns on 5.9 yards/carry. Ty Isaac has also run well, but he left last weekend’s game with an injury, and Kareem Walker also left with a sprained ankle. The other top option is Chris Evans (298 yards on 3.9 yards/carry). The offensive line is #19 in Adjusted Line Yards this season. The group has improved noticeably over the past few weeks, particularly in the run game since right tackle Nolan Ulizio was replaced by Juwann Bushell-Beatty. The Gophers are #36 in rushing defense (132.8 yards allowed/game) and #54 in yards allowed per carry (4.12). The leading tackler is middle linebacker Thomas Barber (6’1″, 233 lbs.) with 75 stops, and he’s followed by weakside linebacker Jonathan Celestin (6’1″, 232) with 60 tackles. Barber is #2 on the team in tackles for loss (8.0), topped only by DE/OLB Carter Coughlin (6’4″, 245) and his 8.5 tackles for loss. Minnesota has a solid interior defensive line with nose tackle Steven Richardson (6’0″, 300) and 3-tech Gary Moore (6’4″, 295). The Gophers are solid up front, but Michigan seems to have an upward trend right now that I expect to continue in the running game.
Advantage: Michigan
