Name: Eamonn Dennis
Height:
5’10”
Weight:
175 lbs.
High school:
Worcester (MA) St. John’s
Position:
Cornerback
Class:
Redshirt sophomore
Jersey number:
#37
Last year:
I ranked Dennis #75 and said he would be a backup cornerback (LINK). He played in three games on special teams.
TTB Rating:
79

Dennis was a standout all-around player in high school who has yet to gain his footing at Michigan. Despite being a three-way superstar, Michigan can’t seem to find a place for him. After redshirting as a freshman, he played in the first three games last season on special teams and was never heard from again.

It’s going to be tough to break in at cornerback in 2022, also, with both D.J. Turner II and Gemon Green returning with starting experience, as well as 5-star freshman Will Johnson now on the roster. Things could potentially open up in 2023 for some more contributors when Green and Turner will likely be gone, but for this season, Dennis’s best chance to play is probably to expand his role on special teams.

Prediction: Backup cornerback and special teamer

2022 Season Countdown: #115 Josh Beetham

Josh Beetham (image via Twitter)

Name: Josh Beetham
Height:
6’5″
Weight:
239 lbs.
High school:
Yorkville (IL) Yorkville
Position:
Tight end
Class:
Redshirt sophomore
Jersey number:
#37
Last year:
I did not rank Beetham. He played in one game.
TTB Rating:
N/A

And now we get to the class of 2020 quarterback that everyone thought would turn into a tight end: Dan Villa- . . . Josh Beetham! Yes, Beetham graduated in the class of 2020 but did not join Michigan’s football team as a walk-on until 2021. He was a 6’5″, 220 lb. pocket QB in high school, which naturally seems to lend itself to a transition to tight end. (Full disclosure: Beetham originally committed to Illinois as a preferred walk-on in 2020, but then ended up in Ann Arbor a year later.)

I might be underrating Beetham here, because he joined Michigan’s team in 2021 and played against Northern Illinois. That’s pretty impressive to play as a walk-on in your first season. However, Michigan has such depth at tight end that I have a hard time seeing him move up the ranks too much, especially when another walk-on (Carter Selzer) is already seeing a fair number of snaps. Perhaps Beetham will be the Carter Selzer of 2023, but for now, I think Beetham is probably going to stay off the radar most of the time.

Prediction: Backup tight end
