Michigan vs. Penn State Awards

Hassan Haskins

Let’s see more of this guy on offense . . . Hassan Haskins. Haskins averaged 5.9 yards per carry on 17 attempts (stat line: 17 rushes, 106 yards, 2 TD). The quarterbacks combined to average 4.0 yards per passing attempt. Of course, you’re probably not going to be able to break off big runs if you’re handing off the ball 60 times and throwing it 20 times, but Haskins was not used enough. He’s the most consistent runner behind a mediocre (or bad) offensive line.

2020 Season Countdown: #91 Adam Shibley

Name: Adam Shibley
Height:
6’1″
Weight:
225 lbs.
High school:
Cleveland (OH) St. Ignatius
Position:
Linebacker
Class:
Redshirt junior
Jersey number:
#45
Last year:
I ranked Shibley #81 and said he would be a backup linebacker and special teamer (LINK). He played in ten games and made 1 tackle.
TTB Rating:
N/A

If you read the post about Adam Fakih yesterday, you can pretty much cut and paste it here for Shibley. Shibley was Scout Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 and is a talented walk-on, but there probably won’t be much playing time available for a coaching staff that doesn’t rotate in many backup linebackers.

It looks like another year of special teams work for Adam & Adam.

Prediction: Backup linebacker, special teamer

2019 Season Countdown: #81 Adam Shibley

Adam Shibley

Name: Adam Shibley
Height:
6’1″
Weight:
228 lbs.
High school:
Cleveland (OH) St. Ignatius
Position:
Linebacker
Class:
Redshirt sophomore
Jersey number:
#45
Last year:
I ranked Shibley # (LINK). He played in two games.
TTB Rating:
N/A

Shibley was a good looking high school prospect who came to the Wolverines as a preferred walk-on. He was a two-time Scout Team Player of the Week in 2018, and he was named Co-Scout Team Defensive Player of the Year, too. Michigan tossed him in on special teams against Nebraska and Florida last year.

This year Shibley is unlikely to play a major role for Michigan, but he has shown that he’s capable of earning his way on the field in small roles. He’s blocked at inside linebacker by several high-profile recruits and more experienced players, but special teams might be his path to more playing time.

Prediction: Backup linebacker, special teamer

Last year: I did not rank Shibley. He redshirted.

Shibley has good size for an inside linebacker, or maybe even a fullback, at Michigan. The Wolverines have good depth at linebacker, but there’s always room for special teamers and position switchers. I liked Shibley coming out of high school more than most walk-on linebackers, but it’s still early for a walk-on linebacker to contribute in just his second year on campus.
