Name: Christian Bartholomew
Height:
6’0″
Weight:
187 lbs.
High school:
Galesburg (MI) Kalamazoo United
Position:
 Wide receiver
Class:
Redshirt junior
Jersey number:
#27
Last year:
I ranked Bartholomew #108 and and said he would be a backup wide receiver (LINK). He played in one game.
TTB Rating:
N/A

After redshirting in 2020, Bartholomew has played in one game in each of the past two seasons. Michigan often seems to have a walk-on receiver ascend to the fringe of playing time , and a few years ago, Bartholomew would have been my pick. But with the recruitment of the bigger, perhaps more skilled Peyton O’Leary, Bartholomew seems less likely to get there. For now it seems like Bartholomew is going to be a backup who might get a chance on special teams or in blowouts.

Prediction: Backup wide receiver and special teamer

Position:
Wide receiver

Bartholomew enters into his third season and has played in one game so far in his career. That one game was against Northern Illinois, a game in which Carl Grapentine and Dave Ablauf also participated. I do think Bartholomew has better speed than Grapentine, but Ablauf will be battling him for sixth string wideout.

Prediction: Backup wide receiver

2021 Season Countdown: #115 Christian Bartholomew

Name: Christian Bartholomew
Height:

Weight:
185 lbs.
High school:
Galesburg (MI) Kalamazoo Central
Position:
Wide receiver
Class:
Redshirt freshman
Jersey number:
#27
Last year:
I ranked Bartholomew #107 and said he would redshirt (LINK). He redshirted.
TTB Rating:
N/A

Bartholomew had two 1,000-yard receiving seasons in high school – as a sophomore and junior – before moving to quarterback as a senior. Though he played at a small school, those are still impressive numbers. Last year I did not expect much from him because he was a freshman walk-on.

I still like Bartholomew’s talent, but he continues to hang around here in the 100’s because of his status as a walk-on. I don’t think Josh Gattis is quite as likely to play walk-on receivers as former coaches like Pep Hamilton. There might be an opportunity if there are injuries or as Bartholomew gets older, but I think he’s a practice squad guy for now.

Prediction: Backup wide receiver

2020 Season Countdown: #107 Christian Bartholomew

Christian Bartholomew (image via Hudl)

Name: Christian Bartholomew
Height:
6’1″
Weight:
180 lbs.
High school:
Kalamazoo (MI) Hackett
Position:
Quarterback/wide receiver
Class:
Freshman
Jersey number:
N/A
Last year:
Bartholomew was a senior in high school.

Bartholomew committed to Michigan as a preferred walk-on. He runs a 4.5 forty and on his Hudl page, he claims a 245 lb. bench and a 385 lb. squat. Though he played quarterback as a senior, he caught 66 passes for 1,131 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior, and he made 78 catches for 1,029 yards and 9 touchdowns as a sophomore.

I’m not so sure about that 4.5 forty time, but Bartholomew looks like that kind of good all-around athlete who could eventually earn some playing time either at receiver or on special teams.

Prediction: Redshirt
