Ex-Wolverine Updates: Week 1

TRANSFERS

Devin Asiasi, TE (UCLA): Asiasi was suspended for the season opener.

Ian Bunting, TE (California): Bunting played but did not record a catch in a 24-17 win over North Carolina.

Brian Cole, S (Mississippi State): Cole made 2 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in a 63-6 win over Stephen F. Austin. He also had 2 kickoff returns for 59 yards (29.5 yards/return).

Kingston Davis, RB (UAB): Davis had 6 carries for 14 yards and 1 touchdown in a 52-0 win over Savannah State.

Drake Harris, WR (Western Michigan): Harris had 1 catch for 12 yards in a 55-42 loss to Syracuse.

Wilton Speight, QB (UCLA): Speight started in week one and was 8/12 for 45 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 1 interception; he also had 4 carries for 12 yards. Unfortunately, he left the game with an apparent back injury. UCLA lost to Cincinnati, 26-17.

Kareem Walker, RB (Fort Scott C.C.): Walker had 13 carries for 48 yards (3.7 yards/carry) in a 29-28 loss to Highland Community College.

Keith Washington, CB (West Virginia): Washington made 1 tackle in a 40-14 win over Tennessee.

Maurice Ways, WR (California): Ways made 1 catch for 23 yards in a 24-17 win over North Carolina.

Tyrone Wheatley, Jr., TE (Stony Brook): Wheatley played but did not record any statistics in a 38-0 loss to Air Force.

Ex-Wolverine Update: Post-2017 Recap

TRANSFERS

Devin Asiasi, TE (UCLA): Asiasi sat out the season due to NCAA transfer rules. He will presumably stick around to play for Chip Kelly as a redshirt sophomore in 2018.

Kyle Bosch, OG (West Virginia): Bosch started 12 games for West Virginia, who suffered a 30-14 loss to Utah in their bowl game. The Mountaineers went 7-5 in the regular season (7-6 overall). Bosch is out of eligibility, and NFL Draft Scout ranks him as the #15 offensive guard in the 2018 draft class.

Ross Douglas, LB (Rutgers): Rutgers went 4-8 and didn’t play in a bowl game, so Douglas finished his final college season with 37 tackles, 4 pass breakups, and 1 quarterback hurry.

Ja’Raymond Hall, OG (Central Michigan): Hall announced that he would transfer to Central Michigan.

Shane Morris, QB (Central Michigan): Morris went 8-5 as a starter at Central Michigan, ending the year with a 37-14 loss to Wyoming in their bowl game; Morris was 23/39 (59%) for 329 yards, 1 TD, and 4 INT, and he ran 7 times for -34 yards in the game. You can watch highlights of the Idaho Potato Bowl here (LINK). Overall, he completed 249/446 passes (55.8%) for 3,237 yards, 27 TD, and 17 INT as a senior. He ran 88 times for 93 yards (1.1 YPC) and 3 TD. He even tossed in 1 punt for 43 yards against Western Michigan earlier in the year. Out of college eligibility, he is ranked as the #42 quarterback by NFL Draft Scout.

Dan Samuelson, OG (Eastern Michigan): Samuelson was a part-time starter for EMU this season. He won the Team Player Award and was on the MAC’s All-Academic Team.  The Eagles went 5-7 and did not make it to a bowl game. Samuelson’s college eligibility is completed.

Wyatt Shallman, DE (Ohio): Shallman had 2 quarterback hurries in his final collegiate game, a 41-6 win over UAB in the bowl game. Ohio finished the year at 9-4. Shallman has only played in the bowl game and during a five-game stretch in the middle of the season, totaling 13 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 quarterback hurries, and 1 pass breakup.

Keith Washington, CB (Copiah-Lincoln Community College): Washington, who played this past season at Co-Lin, is transferring to West Virginia.

TRANSFERS

Ross Douglas, LB (Rutgers): Douglas made 4 tackles in a 40-7 loss to Michigan State. Rutgers is 4-8 and won’t play in a bowl game, so Douglas finishes his final college season with 37 tackles, 4 pass breakups, and 1 quarterback hurry.

Shane Morris, QB (Central Michigan): Morris completed 19/37 passes for 247 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception in a 31-24 win over Northern Illinois. He also had 6 carries for -37 yards.

Dan Samuelson, OG (Eastern Michigan): Samuelson was a part-time starter for EMU this season. They went 5-7 after a 34-31 win over Bowling Green to end the season.

Wyatt Shallman, DE (Ohio): Shallman did not play in Ohio’s season finale, a 31-24 loss to Buffalo. At 8-4 the Bobcats will presumably play in a bowl game. Shallman has only played during a five-game stretch in the middle of the season, totaling 13 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 1 pass breakup so far.

Ex-Wolverine Updates: Week 5

Former WR/S Brian Cole II: Cole made 3 tackles, blocked a punt, and returned a fumble 50 yards for a touchdown in East Mississippi Community College’s 73-7 victory over Mississippi Delta Community College. Below is his five-game highlight film from this season:

Former CB commit Gareon Conley: Conley made 2 tackles in Ohio State’s 58-0 demolition of Rutgers.

Former defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin: Durkin improved to 4-0 as a head coach as Maryland beat Purdue, 50-7.

Former RB commit Damien Harris: Harris had 2 carries for 11 yards in Alabama’s 34-6 win over Kentucky. Harris is the starter but left the previous week’s game early with an ankle injury.

Former DT Richard Ash: Ash’s Western Michigan Broncos will play the Air Force Falcons in the Idaho Potato Bowl on December 20th. Ash has 40 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and 2 blocked kicks so far this season.

Former CB Cullen Christian: Christian’s West Virginia Mountaineers will play the Texas A&M Aggies in the Liberty Bowl on December 29th. Christian has made 5 tackles this year.

Former CB commit Gareon Conley, former DT Chris Rock: Conley made 1 tackle in Ohio State’s 59-0 win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game. That win propelled the Buckeyes to the #4 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings, and they will play #1 Alabama in the Sugar Bowl on January 1st.

Former CB commit Dallas Crawford, K commit Matt Goudis: Their Miami Hurricanes will play the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Independence Bowl on December 27th. Crawford has 35 tackles, .5 tackles for loss, and 2 pass breakups this year. Goudis was 4/6 on field goals and 6/6 on extra points this year but a back injury forced him to miss the final ten games of the year.

Former S Joshua Furman: Furman’s Oklahoma State Cowboys will play the Washington Huskies in the Cactus Bowl on January 2nd. This past weekend Furman helped upset the Oklahoma Sooners in overtime with a 38-35 victory. Furman made 2 tackles in the game. He now has 58 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, and 4 pass breakups on the year.

Former RB commit Demetrius Hart: Hart’s Colorado State Rams will play the Utah Utes in the Las Vegas Bowl on December 20th. Hart has rushed for 1,254 yards (6.7 yards/carry) and 16 touchdowns so far this year.

Former linebackers coach Jay Hopson: Hopson, now the head coach at Alcorn State, won the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship with a 38-24 victory over Southern. After a 4-7 start to his head coaching career in 2012, he is now 19-6 in the last two seasons.

Former RB Thomas Rawls: Rawls’s Central Michigan Chippewas will play the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in the Bahamas Bowl on December 24th. Rawls has rushed for 1,103 yards (5.3 yards/carry) and 10 touchdowns this year.

Former head coach Rich Rodriguez: Rodriguez’s Arizona Wildcats were blasted by Oregon in the Pac-12 championship game by a score of 51-13. They are currently 10-3 and will play the Boise State Broncos in the Fiesta Bowl on December 31st.

Former S Ray Vinopal: Vinopal’s Pitt Panthers will play the Houston Cougars in the Armed Forces Bowl on January 2nd. Vinopal has 61 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 5 pass breakups on the year.

Former CB commit Adrian Witty: Witty’s Cincinnati Bearcats will play the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Military Bowl on December 27th. Witty has made 3 tackles this year but has not played in the final eleven games, though I cannot find any information on why he has been out.
