2021 Season Countdown: #42 Junior Colson

Name: Junior Colson
Height:
6’2″
Weight:
230 lbs.
High school:
Brentwood (TN) Ravenwood
Position:
Linebacker
Class:
Freshman
Jersey number:
#25
Last year:
Colson was a senior in high school (LINK). He made 59 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries.
TTB Rating:
89

After being adopted out of Haiti, Colson had long been a Michigan fan, so the offer from the Wolverines was an easy one to accept. His picking of the Wolverines was a huge one for the staff, as they needed an impact player at linebacker following the departure of Devin Bush a couple seasons ago and Josh Uche following the 2019 campaign. Colson played a variety of roles in high school, including wide receiver, outside linebacker, middle linebacker, and kick returner. Ravenwood is a strong program in Tennessee, one that also is the home of 2022 Michigan cornerback commit Myles Pollard.

Colson is listed at 6’2″ and 230 lbs., and he looks like he runs in the 4.6 range. I think he could play outside linebacker or inside linebacker at Michigan. Reports coming out of practice have been very positive about him, but it’s tough to play linebacker as a true freshman. I think he will play a backup role this season, but he could very well step into a starting position in 2022 once someone like Josh Ross departs.

Prediction: Backup linebacker

Visitors: Michigan vs. Wisconsin

Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei CB Domani Jackson (image via Hudl)

I haven’t posted a visitors list in a long time, because visitors haven’t been allowed to visit Michigan since last winter. And they’re still not allowed to visit campus, at least not while having any contact with the coaching staff.

But there is a group of recruits who plan to come to Ann Arbor and hang out together on their own.

2021

Raheem Anderson II – C – Detroit (MI) Cass Tech: Anderson is committed to Michigan (LINK).

Andrel Anthony – WR – East Lansing (MI) East Lansing: Anthony is committed to Michigan (LINK).

2020

Reece Atteberry – C – Aurora (CO) Eaglecrest: Atteberry is committed to Michigan (LINK).

Elijah Gaines – S – Alexandria (VA) Episcopal: At one time Gaines had set up an official visit to Michigan for this game, but he committed to Penn State in the meantime.

Darion Green-Warren – CB – Harbor City (CA) Narbonne: Green-Warren is a 6’0″, 187-pounder with offers from Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State, and USC, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #13 cornerback, and #209 overall. His crystal ball is 88% in favor of USC and 0% for Michigan right now. UPDATE: Green-Warren is visiting in December.

Jaylen Harrell – DE – Tampa (FL) Berkeley Prep: Harrell is a 6’4″, 235 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, and Miami, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #14 weakside end, and #301 overall. This is an official visit.

Nikhai Hill-Green – LB – Baltimore (MD) St. Frances: Hill-Green is committed to Michigan (LINK).

Myles Hinton – OT – Norcross (GA) Greater Atlanta Christian: Hinton is a 6’6″, 308-pounder who is committed to Stanford. His brother Chris is a Michigan defensive tackle, and Myles has visited several times this year, largely to see his brother. There’s an outside chance that Michigan can flip him.

Kris Jenkins, Jr. – DE – Olney (MD) Good Counsel: Jenkins is committed to Michigan (LINK).

Jayson Jones – DT – Calera (AL) Calera: Jones is a 6’6″, 340 lb. prospect who has been committed to Alabama since June of 2018. He has long insisted that he would take a visit to Michigan, even though some have doubted whether it would happen or not. He’s a 4-star, the #18 defensive tackle, and #174 overall.

Hit the jump for more visitors.
