Name: Noah Stewart
Height:
6’7″
Weight:
283 lbs.
High school:
Muskegon (MI) North Muskegon
Position:
Tight end
Class:
Redshirt junior
Jersey number:
#61

I didn’t rank Stewart. He played in one game.
TTB Rating:
 N/A

Denegal wins the annual Tom Strobel Random Lineman Turned Into a Tight End Award, previously awarded to the likes of Tom Strobel, Trente Jones, and Joel Honigford. Coming out of high school, Stewart was ranked as a 3-star offensive lineman by 247 Sports, but the offensive line is stacked. The official roster lists a position change from offensive line to tight end, but the #61 jersey lags a little behind the position switch.

Considering how much his predecessors actually played as extra (blocking) tight ends, perhaps I’m ranking Stewart way too low. At 6’7″ and 283 lbs. he could potentially be a very tough tight end to deal with for 5-tech defensive ends – or even smaller players – so perhaps Michigan has some secrets plans to help Stewart outstrip this low-ish ranking. But until I see otherwise, I’ll assume Stewart will be mostly on the bench.

Prediction: Backup tight end

2022 Season Countdown: #114 Noah Stewart

Name: Noah Stewart
Height:
6’7″
Weight:
274 lbs.
High school:
Muskegon (MI) North
Position:
Offensive tackle
Class:
Redshirt sophomore
Jersey number:
#61
Last year:
I ranked Stewart #121 and said he would be a backup offensive tackle (LINK). He played in one game.
TTB Rating:
N/A

Stewart is a massive offensive lineman who’s very narrow and a little bit raw. When he came out of high school, he looked like an oversized tight end. Despite being in college for a couple years, he is still listed at only 274 pounds on Michigan’s spring roster (he was 240 coming out of high school). At his height 274 is still way too light to be a legitimate option on the offensive line, and he needs to get into at least the 290s before talk of getting on the field much is warranted.

Prediction: Backup offensive tackle

2021 Season Countdown: #121 Noah Stewart

Noah Stewart (#71, image via MLive)

Name: Noah Stewart
Height:
6’7″
Weight:
255 lbs.
High school:
Muskegon (MI) Northern Muskegon
Position:
Offensive tackle
Class:
Redshirt freshman
Jersey number:
#61
Last year:
I did not rank Stewart. He redshirted.
TTB Rating:
N/A

I did not rank Stewart in 2020. The season countdown wasn’t as expansive, and as a freshman preferred walk-on lineman, I didn’t deem him capable of stepping on the field. And that was accurate. Stewart didn’t have a chance as a 6’7″, 245 lb. offensive tackle.

This year Stewart is a whopping 255 lbs. If I were Michigan, I might look at giving him a tight end number and playing him as a blocking tight end. Last year Michigan toyed with walk-on Carter Selzer and converted lineman Joel Honigford at tight end, and Stewart probably fits that role as a blocker better than Selzer. I don’t necessarily expect Stewart to play this year, but he has a lot of upside for a walk-on lineman.

Prediction: Backup offensive lineman
