Ex-Wolverine Player Updates: Spring 2026

Justice Haynes

Here’s the scoop on 77 former Michigan Wolverines players, how their 2025 went, and where they are for 2026.

FORMER PLAYERS

Raheem Anderson, C (Western Michigan): Anderson concluded his college football career by becoming an All-MAC center for the Broncos in 2025.

Andrel Anthony, WR (Duke): Anthony concluded his college football career by catching 26 passes for 246 yards and 5 touchdowns for the Blue Devils in 2025. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons.

Devon Baxter, DE (Virginia): Baxter is a 6’6″, 247 lb. redshirt sophomore for his first season at Virginia.

Jeremiah Beasley, LB (Missouri): Beasley made 19 tackles and 1 forced fumble in 2025 and is penciled in as a backup linebacker for the 2026 season.

Josh Beetham, TE (Georgia Tech): Beetham started five games and played in all thirteen in 2025, making 6 catches for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns altogether.

Kechaun Bennett, DE (UCLA): Bennett transferred to UCLA for his final college season and made 25 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 1 quarterback hurry while playing in eleven games.

Christian Boivin, LB (Saginaw Valley State): Boivin transferred to Division II SVSU and made 105 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble in 2025.

Tristan Bounds, OT (Arizona): Bounds started eight games for Arizona in 2025 and is expected to be the starting right tackle in 2026. He’s listed at 6’8″, 306 lbs. going into his sixth year.

2025 Season Countdown: #71-75

Jadyn Davis (image via USA Today)

75. QB Jadyn Davis (RS Fr.): Davis was the #112 overall prospect in the class of 2024, but going into his second year at Michigan, he still has a lot of mechanical things to improve, particularly his long delivery. I would have ranked him higher in this year’s countdown if not for the late arrival of Jake Garcia, but I think Garcia’s college experience will push him ahead. My guess is that Davis will be #4 on the depth chart behind Bryce Underwood, Mikey Keene, and Garcia. Last year’s rank: #97.

74. TE Deakon Tonielli (RS So.): Well, I overshot Last year on Tonielli, ranking him #45 and thinking he would be essentially the #3 tight end behind Colston Loveland and Marlin Klein. Instead, Hogan Hansen took that role while Tonielli earned Scout Team Player of the Week honors twice. This year it seems like the tight end role will be diminished a little bit, and also there has been an emergence of Jalen Hoffman at the H-back position. I would also like to see Tonielli a little heavier on the fall roster, because he was 6’5″, 238 lbs. on the spring roster. Last year’s rank: #45.

73. CB Jeremiah Lowe (RS Fr.): Lowe didn’t play at all in 2024, taking a redshirt. This spring he was listed at 5’11” and 177 lbs. and was sort of an afterthought with the arrival of early enrollee Shamari Earls and a couple transfers in the defensive backfield. Lowe then made 2 interceptions in the spring game to put himself on the radar. I’m not ready to buy into him being a heavy contributor in Michigan’s defense, but there were plays to be made in the spring game and he made them. (He also had another nice pass breakup that was almost an interception.) Perhaps we’ll see him play a backup role in the hopes of becoming a bigger contributor in 2026. Last year’s rank: #107.

72. OT Ty Haywood (Fr.): Haywood is just a freshman, and it’s tough to get on the field as a freshman offensive lineman. However, he was #39 overall in the 247 Composite and flipped from Alabama. He’s a legit player but might need some time to develop after enrolling over the summer (unlike classmate Andrew Babalola who arrived in January). I don’t expect Haywood to compete for a starting job in 2025, but he could have an Andrew Sprague-like freshman year where he shows up late and then vies for a starting job in 2026.

71. RB C.J. Hester (RS Jr.): Hester is a transfer from UMass and led the Minutemen in rushing attempts in 2024, running 119 times for 529 yards and 4 touchdowns. At 5’11” and 195 pounds, he’s an adequate back but not particularly fast, elusive, or powerful. Michigan has a deep but largely unproven backfield this season, and Hester will probably be a relatively minor contributor behind Jordan Marshall and Justice Haynes.

2025 Recruiting Update: February 4, 2025

Ty Haywood

Tomorrow is the anticlimactic “late” National Signing Day that we have to suffer through after the “early” signing period that popped up in December a few years ago. It’s tough to get too excited about the early signing period since we’re still in the midst of thoughts about Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, bowl games, the College Football Playoff, etc. at that time of year, but there’s still some potential for excitement for the 2025 class:

Denton (TX) Ryan offensive tackle Ty Haywood (4-star, #6 OT, #39 overall) will be announcing his commitment at 8:00 a.m. CST (9:00 a.m. EST), so keep an eye on him. It appears to be a Florida State vs. Michigan battle, but Michigan is the betting favorite as of right now. The 6’5″, 285-pounder could be a star in the near future and would make two top-40 offensive tackles for Michigan in the class if he joins Andrew Babalola, who signed in December. Haywood has outstanding potential, but my primary concern is that he’s usually the last guy off the ball, so he needs to get quicker off the snap.

Chase Herbstreit (#7, image via X)

Cincinnati (OH) St. Xavier quarterback Chase Herbstreit (3-star, #147 QB, #2191 overall) committed to Michigan already, but he committed after the early signing period was over, so he should officially be in the fold on Wednesday. He just took his official visit to Ann Arbor this past weekend, which caused an uproar on the internet since his dad, famous Ohio State alum-turned-broadcaster Kirk Herbstreit, showed up in some social media pictures wearing navy blue and a Michigan lanyard.

Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep defensive end Zahir Mathis (4-star, #12 EDGE, #114 overall) is still uncommitted after decommitting from Ohio State. Michigan was in the mix, but the two parties parted ways before Mathis took an official visit in January, so it looks to be down to Florida State and Maryland for Mathis.

OFF THE BOARD

Columbia (SC) Heathwood Hall Episcopal cornerback Onis Konanbanny (4-star, #34 CB, #361 overall) flipped from Tennessee to Florida. He had been committed to the Volunteers since August 2024.
