ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2018

St. Louis (MO) Christian Brothers wide receiver Kamryn Babb was offered by Michigan. Babb is a 6’1″, 189-pounder with offers from Auburn, LSU, Miami, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Ohio State, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #13 wide receiver, and #86 overall. He has already been selected for the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. As a sophomore in 2015, he caught 39 passes for 832 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Mt. Holly (NJ) Rancocas Valley running back Iverson Clement was offered by Michigan. He’s 6’0″, 190 lbs. and a 4-star, the #22 athlete, and #283 overall. He claims a 4.49 forty, a 38″ vertical, and an 11.2 time in the 100 meters. As a junior in 2016, he ran 194 times for 1,430 yards (7.4 YPC) and 19 touchdowns. Immediately after the offer, Clement put Michigan in his top six, along with Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, and Tennessee.

Brooklyn (NY) Erasmus Hall wide receiver Aron Cruickshank was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’10”, 165-pounder with offers from Ohio State and Syracuse. Cruickshank is very slight and plays a lot of quarterback for his high school team, but his future is at receiver or maybe cornerback. Erasmus Hall is the school that produced Curtis Samuel.

Lehigh Acres (FL) Lehigh running back Chris Curry was offered by Michigan. Curry is a 5’11”, 200 lb. prospect with offers from Florida, North Carolina, and Wisconsin, among others. As a junior in 2016, he carried the ball 105 times for 1,158 yards (11.0 YPC) and 13 touchdowns, including a 98-yarder. Miami appears to be the early front-runner.

Hightstown (NJ) Peddie School center Dan Dawkins was offered by Michigan. He’s 6’3″, 296 lbs. and has offers from Duke, Missouri, and North Carolina, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #2 center, and #310 overall. Dawkins is very strong (405 lb. bench), stays low, and looks the part of a power blocking center. He is also the teammate of a couple other Michigan offerees for 2018, including wide receiver Jahan Dotson and quarterback Allan Walters (see below).

West Palm Beach (FL) Lakes safety Gurvan Hall was offered by Michigan. Hall is a 6’1″, 185-pounder with offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Miami, and Notre Dame, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #21 safety, and #267 overall. Hall is a heavy hitter at safety and with some nice ball skills.

West Point (MS) West Point running back Marcus Murphy was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 190-pounder who was committed to Mississippi State since May of 2016, and he then decommitted two days after receiving the Michigan offer. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #10 athlete, and #167 overall. As a junior in 2016, he had 1,756 rushing yards and 29 total touchdowns.

Jersey City (NJ) St. Peter’s Prep safety Shayne Simon was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 195 lb. prospect with offers from Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Penn State, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #34 safety, and #419 overall. Simon is a little stiff in coverage, and he could grow into an outside linebacker.

OFF THE BOARD

Jacksonville (FL) Trinity safety Chamarri Conner committed to Virginia Tech. Michigan offered him last May but nothing ever came of it.

Cartersville (GA) Cartersville quarterback Trevor Lawrence committed to Clemson. He’s the #1 overall player in the 2018 class. Michigan running back commit Kurt Taylor was supposedly working on getting him to Michigan, but he never visited. He’s already committed to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Yoakum (TX) Yoakum running back Jordan Moore committed to Texas A&M. Interestingly, twin brother Joshua Moore, is still undecided. Jordan had put Michigan in his top group, but he never visited campus.

Hightstown (NJ) Peddie School quarterback Allan Walters committed to Vanderbilt. Walters was one of Michigan’s first offers at quarterback in the 2018 class, but that was when he attended Paramus (NJ) Catholic. He transferred to the Peddie School after his sophomore year, which breaks a little bit of the connection Michigan had. Besides, Michigan cooled on him during his sophomore year and was no longer pursuing him, instead setting their sights elsewhere.

    I’m keeping a close watch on Michigan’s OL offers for 2018 &
Dawkins is a good offer; ranked #2 Center position. However; made me curious as to why Michigan has yet to offer Sampson – the #1 ranked center who is only a few miles away from AA. Made me wonder if Sampson has Academic/Behaviorial issues.

Current in state prospects look good – practically enough to suit the OL commit quota – except my ?? with Sampson. I think the young man up at Traverse City too; might be a little early on him but they’re aware of him.

Reed out of Muskegon too. He was at IMG briefly last year but returned to Muskegon; and then I ponder about the progress of the Ausie, Faalele, at IMG too.
EEikyor has already commited and McCall from Oak Park is a Michigan lean. All toll; thats a half dozen OL’s right there plus whats across the rest of Murahka to recruit. Wouldn’t think Michigan to have much trouble getting the numbers & quality they need for 2018 at the OL position.

    As I see it……………INTJohn

Lawrence committing to Clemson was a double slam on me as I harbored closet delusions that Harbaugh might get him North or more realistically he would go with my other alma mater in Tallahassee……..

Will be interesting to see what happens at recruitment for the QB position now that DT-R is on record as saying UCLA is all but a lock for him. Don’t really think Michigan ‘needs’ a QB in this class but if they could get a Lawrence -sure! (would rather see them get 6 OL’s). Don’t know if DT-R is worth the cross continental effort like Lawrence would’ve been. Sitkowski in NJ I think – loox good to me but I don’t know much about him. All the other top programs but Michigan have a QB already committed for 2018 and the pickens now are slim. 2018 might be a good year to forget QB & put ALL effort into quality for other positions……..

    IMHO…………..INTJohn

I don’t think you should ever NOT take a QB in a recruiting class. Especially with the uncertainty of UM quarterbacks. Speight isn’t elite and may be headed for some competition this year. After watching McCaffrey a couple times, I don’t have as much confidence that he’ll be ready for at least a couple years. To me he lacked touch and arm strength. That leaves Peters as the quarterback with the best chance in my mind, to become a Harbaugh-groomed stud. But, even with Peters, there were some rumors about his leadership ability or lack there of. Regardless, I’m all for finding another 4/5 star QB that can be counted on in the future.

Speight might be elite! I think Harbaugh thinks he can be.

Speight is going to ‘face competition’ the way Rudock did in 2015. i.e., not

I think Speight lacks the confidence and mechanics to truly be elite.

Lack of confidence might be directly related/correlated to a lack of an elite offensive line.
Itsa good thing Sp8’s as big as he is tho, cause he’s guna take alota shots in 2017. The Backup QB may see a lot of action I think in 2017 and not because Michigan is ahead by 40 in the 3rd kwarter.

OK but both can be improved. Agree that both are issues holding him back – and I suspect they contribute to the “inconsistent inaccuracy” issues I’ve brought up before. If Speight improves his confidence and mechanics (the two could be related) then I think you’ll see inconsistent accuracy turn into consistent accuracy.

Speculative and hopeful, I admit. But possible, IMO. He could get there.

The only thing I see as a true limitation for Speight is that his arm strength will never be close to elite. That may hinder his NFL stock but he’s got enough for the college game if he’s making smart decision and throwing accurate balls consistently.

The only thing elite so far is pocket presence. Reasonable projections put his decision-making there within the next 2 years. So you’re down to accuracy and consistency.

Yeah – general rule of thumb but I’ve never been one to take a general rule and make it a universal truth – in a much broader sense this is basically the main overall problem with Humanity ‘in general’ – haha!

Harbs has Sp8 for 2 more years; and you’ve failed – much to the disservice to the young man – failed to mention Malzone; and then yes, Peters with McCaffrey yet to arrive……. basically 7 years worth of QB’s; IF one is going to miss a year on a QB – 2018 would probably be the year to choose. Its going to be a small class anyway and we need infinite of OL and defense personal a TE or 2 as well as the breakaway power runner……..

If there is a year that Michigan COULD blow a QB off – 2018 is it.

He may have failed to mention Malzone because there are a lot of rumors out there of him graduating early and moving on.

        Yeah a lot of rumors but there’s a reason they’re called Rumor’s.
But truth and reality – not rumor – is that Malzone is a scholarship QB on the Team and deserves mention as McCaffrey is not even yet on the team tho RUMOR has it he might be – ‘I heard’ but its not yet a truth………….

Thunder – what is your current sense / guess / prediction on Solomon?

I’m not reading all the buzz going on but my sense is the kid is not coming to Michigan given what he is saying. Yet the buzz seems to grow (in volume at least).

I put my Crystal Ball on him coming to Michigan, at least for now. It’s one that I might change, because it’s been wacky. But I think he’s very impressionable, and I think he likes toying with people at this point.

Seems to me the odds are the people he is toying with include Michigan fans. But I’m skeptical by nature… Hope your CB is correct!

I scoffed at the notion that we would get Denard, so hopefully that situation can get repeated.

Denard came to Michigan because RR gave him opportunity to play QB

Yeah OK, reading his coaches twitter feed, you just might be right.

        That would be fantastic.

The story of 2017 looks about like the story of 2013-2016: IF THE OL CAN STEP UP…
