2019 Season Countdown: #86 Zach Carpenter

Name: Zach Carpenter
Height:
6’4″
Weight:
316 lbs.
High school:
Cincinnati (OH) Moeller
Position:
Offensive guard
Class:
Freshman
Jersey number:
N/A
Last year:
Carpenter was a senior in high school (LINK).
TTB Rating:
73

Carpenter was a recruit who largely seemed to fly under the radar. He committed to Michigan, stayed solid to Michigan, had a decent ranking (247 Composite 3-star, #33 OG, #555 overall), didn’t play in an All-America game, and just sort of…existed in the class.

Meanwhile, I have him down as the second most likely freshman offensive lineman to contribute this year. Why? At 6’5″ and 316 lbs., with his strength, he doesn’t need a ton of physical development to get on the field. Michigan shouldn’t need him this year, but any lineman with 300+ pounds on him already has a shot to see time, whether in a backup role or on special teams. I still expect him to redshirt, but a lack of size shouldn’t preclude him from seeing the field.

Prediction: Redshirt

Yeah, I got it sorted out yesterday. Thanks for the heads up. It was an issue with Flywheel.

I think he could contribute this year too. Everyone thought Daniel Faalele needed lots of work before contributing too. But he didn’t.
Here’s his highlights as a freshman:

Being a closet Gopher, I enjoyed this. I thought at one time Faalale would end up at Michigan; but then since Harbaugh’s arrival there’s been ALOT of Offensive Lineman I thought would play for the Wolverines but Harb’s & Co never landed, pursued, pushed away, whatever…….????

I give Fleck a lot of credit as from the get go he signed 7 OL’s in his first real class – something other coaches have done in thier first year at a place too; Jimbo Fisher for instance and others. That’s how you begin to build a team – by getting as many OL’s as you can carry in a Duece n A Half ton Truck!

To Harbaugh’s credit the 3 OL’s he did sign in ’16 have been major contributors but Why Harbaugh pushed away Kyle Bosch & guys like Faalale & Swenson and then failed to sign at least 3 more OL’s in ’16 has always been a big SMH moment with me and gave me my first inclinations that maybe Harbaugh is not all he’s cracked up to be regarding Building a Team.

After 4 years at Michigan Harbs finally seems to be beginning to build an OL and are in the mix for more than a few highly ranked ones this year & next. Warriner was part of that OL class at Minny and hope he’ll land many of them for Michigan in contrast to the Harbaugh/Drevno tandem………..INTJohn

Agree on the OL, but “not all he’s cracked up to be” is too strong. Since Harbaugh’s arrival, U-M is 10th in win %, 8th among the Power Five.

          Winning %?? LOL
Ryan Dey’s winning % hmmm well he’s batting a thousand. Comical. So be it for all such stats that are for peeps who regurgitate mindless rote data vs Mission Accomplished results………

Harbaugh was hired by Michigan to beat Ohio State and win East Divy and B10 Championships. In 4 years he’s accomplished none of this all while being paid the kind of money reserved for FBS coaches that have won Conference Championships as well as National Championships…… Oh and in 4 years at Stanford ? Gee thats right Harbaugh won nothing there either. 8 years FBS coaching and Zero! Zip! NAta championships of any kind.

Harbaugh makes everyone’s list of Most Overpaid FBS coaches too blah blah blah……… Maybe Michigan is paying top $$$’s for an inferior product?

However, I don’t care to turn the Zach Carpenter post into a referendum on Harbaugh but since I’ve been without electricity now for almost 24 hours and because its off season and because its too cold to hangout at the Beach and because I’m bored shitless I will post something more encompassing on the Message Board unless Thunder beats me to it & starts a Harbs Referendum thread here on the Front Page. Either way we can all go at it………… :^)

Should be good off season fun………….INTJohn
