OFF THE BOARD

Joshua Braun – OT – Suwannee (FL) Live Oak: Braun committed to Florida. He was previously committed to Georgia. He’s 6’6″ and 335 pounds, which is not the kind of lineman I like for Michigan to recruit.

Jacobe Covington – CB – Scottsdale (AZ) Saguaro: Covington committed to Washington…again.

Andrew Gentry – OT – : Gentry committed to Virginia. I’ve long maintained that I would believe in Gentry’s coming to Michigan when I saw it. I don’t know all the religious affiliations of Michigan’s coaching staff, but Gentry is headed for his Mormon mission for the next two years, and Michigan rarely has success recruiting Mormon players. Meanwhile, Virginia’s head coach used to be the head man at BYU.

Theo Johnson – TE – Windsor (Ontario) Holy Names: Johnson committed to Penn State. Michigan was pursuing him pretty hard, but PSU was long considered the leader.

Deshawn Jones – CB – Akron (OH) East: Jones, who decommitted from 10-3 Cincinnati in October, committed to 3-9 Bowling Green.

Mordecai McDaniel – S – Washington (DC) St. John’s: McDaniel flipped from Tennessee to Florida.

Trenton Simpson – LB – Charlotte (NC) Mallard Creek: Simpson, who was previously an Auburn commit, announced his commitment to Clemson pretty much as soon as they offered.

Deidrick Stanley, Jr. – CB – Hollywood (FL) Chaminade-Madonna: Stanley committed to Middle Tennessee.

Omari Thomas – DT – Eads (TN) Briarcrest Christian: Thomas committed to Tennessee.

Most Gentry speculation had him locked in to stay in-state. That turned out not to be the case though the religious angle did seem to be a factor.

Eh, most speculation had him leaving his home state. He’s from Colorado. Most people expected him to end up at BYU, which is in Utah.
