It’s been a long time since I’ve posted a recruiting update. There’s only so much time in the week, and Michigan recruiting has been pretty slow, anyway. But enough stuff has built up by this point that I think I should clear the cache.
COMMITMENTS
Washington (DC) St. John’s quarterback Kevin Doyle committed to Michigan (LINK).
Hit the jump for some new offers and some guys who committed elsewhere.
ADDED TO THE BOARD
Butler (GA) Taylor County running back Lyn-J Dixon decommitted from Tennessee. He’s a 4-star and #288 overall. I guess he doesn’t like all the dumb losses and the potential departure of Butch Jones.
Defensive end Dorian Hardy decommitted from Penn State, or something. Or they yanked his offer. Hardy, who had been playing for Michigan pipeline Paramus (NJ) Catholic, allegedly got in a fight with a teammate and was removed from the team and the school. The story is that he’s trying to transfer to a different school, but he may not be able to continue playing high school ball at this point.
Eureka (MO) Eureka running back Hassan Haskins was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 202 lb. prospect with offers from Memphis, Purdue, and others. He’s a 3-star, the #93 running back, and #1547 overall. The 247 Crystal Ball reads 100% for Michigan.
Blairstown (NJ) Blair Academy defensive end Jayson Oweh was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 236 lb. prospect with offers from Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #7 strongside end, and #160 overall, and he has been chosen for the Under Armour All-American Game. Penn State and Ohio State combine for 100% of his Crystal Ball picks so far.
Lorton (VA) South County wide receiver Dillon Spalding was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 216 lb. prospect with offers from Indiana, North Carolina State, and Virginia Tech, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #62 wide receiver, and #350 overall.
Norcross (GA) Wesleyan tight end Tommy Tremble was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 225 lb. prospect with offers from Georgia, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and UCLA, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #24 tight end, and #566 overall. Notre Dame has 83% of the Crystal Ball picks at this point, and he has yet to visit Michigan.
OFF THE BOARD
Columbus (OH) St. Francis DeSales linebacker Brian Asamoah committed to Oklahoma. This was expected for a while, and even though Michigan missed out on some other top linebacker prospects, they never turned up the heat on Asamoah.
Bradenton (FL) IMG ACademy cornerback Houston Griffith committed to Florida State. Originally from Illinois, the son of former Illinois and NFL running back Howard Griffith never seemed very interested in his Michigan offer.
Houston (TX) Lamar cornerback D’shawn Jamison committed to Texas. The #18 cornerback in the country had put Michigan in his top five at one point, but he was expected to pick the Longhorns for a while.
Birmingham (AL) Jackson-Olin defensive tackle Coynis Miller committed to Auburn. At 6’1″ and 300 lbs., he’s a bit undersized for the position, but he’s still ranked #163 overall.
Stockbridge (GA) Woodland offensive tackle James Ohonba committed to Michigan State. He had previously named Michigan to his top four.
Chandler (AZ) Hamilton quarterback Tyler Shough flipped his commitment from North Carolina to Oregon. Originally, it looked like Shough might end up joining Joe Milton in Michigan’s 2018 quarterback class, but he pulled somewhat of a surprise and picked the Tarheels. Now he’ll end up playing for Willie Taggart in Eugene.
MISCELLANEY
Mustapha MuhammadMissouri City (TX) Ridge Point tight end will announce his college decision on Friday, October 20. His choice is widely expected to go in favor of Michigan.
