John Beilein, Ex-Wolverine

So . . . Michigan’s basketball coach got yoinked by Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, a former Michigan State Spartan.

Obviously, I’m more of a football guy, but I never liked watching Michigan basketball more than I have during John Beilein’s tenure.

I’ll miss that guy.

2020 Recruiting Update: May 13, 2019

Brenden Rice (image via Sports360AZ)

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2020

Sam Brown – WR – Bloomingdale (GA) New Hampstead: Brown is a 6’1″, 185 lb. prospect with offers from Colorado, Kentucky, and Tennessee, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #173 wide receiver, and #1092 overall. He claims a 4.45 forty, a 4.66 shuttle, and a 38″ vertical.

Collin Gamble – CB – Argyle (TX) Liberty Christian: Gamble is a 5’10”, 175-pounder with offers from Houston, Northwestern, and Texas Tech, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #99 cornerback, and #1191 overall.

Brenden Rice – WR – Chandler (AZ) Hamilton: Rice is a 6’3″, 208 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, Texas A&M, and UCLA, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #57 wide receiver, and #331 overall. Perhaps most significantly is this: he’s the son of Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice. I don’t think there’s any danger of the younger Rice following his dad’s legacy at Mississippi Valley State.

2019 Season Countdown: #104 Jack Stewart

Jack Stewart (image via Detroit News)

Name: Jack Stewart
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 280 lbs.
High school: New Canaan (CT) New Canaan
Position: Offensive tackle
Class: Freshman
Jersey number: N/A
Last year: Stewart was a senior in high school. He made 31 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery on defense.
TTB Rating: 69

Stewart was a standout for New Canaan over the past couple seasons but arrives at Michigan with very little fanfare, as playing in Connecticut is not often considered noteworthy. He did, however, finish the cycle as a respectably rated 3-star, the #43 offensive tackle, and #574 overall.

Stewart signed in December but won’t arrive on campus until this summer, and he has some qualities to work on in the meantime. He needs to reshape his body a little bit, and he will also need to work on his technique – all standard fare for most incoming freshmen. Stewart seems to me to be the most likely incoming freshman to redshirt.

Prediction: Redshirt
