I have, let’s say, “opinions” about the writers for various blogs, sites, etc. around the Michigan media sphere. Some of them are great, and some of them aren’t. A guy who’s quickly moving up the list is TheWolverine.com’s E.J. Holland. Here’s a nugget from a recent batch of recruiting nuggets (LINK):

On how much enrolling early will help Green-Warren: “I think it’s going to help him a lot because now he’s going to get there and put on that extra weight. You have to realize that we stripped 25-30 pounds off of him when he left Mater Dei, which is a powerlifting school. He was looking more like a safety. We took that weight off, and he’s running with the wide receivers and looking like a corner again. Getting in the weight room early with Michigan is going to help a lot. With the weight room comes power and speed.”

For what it’s worth, my favorite recruiting-related guys/bloggers are Seth (MGoBlog), Sam Webb (247 Sports), Steve Lorenz (247 Sports), and Tom VanHaaren (ESPN), with E.J. pretty quickly moving onto that list.

Hit the jump for more.

This is not very surprising, but Jordan Castleberry is looking to transfer:

Baltimore (MD) St. Frances offensive tackle Micah Mazzccua says this:

This is almost two weeks old, but it’s still fun to watch:

    Never even heard of Castleberry

Do you think Mazzccua will sign with MICHIGAN?

The Green-Warren tidbit is interesting as it relates to his discussed 40 time, which I believe was in the mid 4.6s. It begs the question; was that 40 time at the 20-25 lbs heavier weight, or at the lighter weight.

DGW – So it’s good he took weight off and now it’s time to add weight. Sounds like the offseason has officially begun.

I’m not buying the 25-30 lbs off thing. I can see 5, maybe 10 on a 17/18 year old kid playing a skill position, but having seen a raft of good high school football players hanging out between practices over the last 15 years, I don’t believe any high school CB has anything remotely near 25 lbs of excess weight.

Nor does power lifting lead to that kind of excess weight gain in a kid with a DBs frame.

I’m thinking they got 6-8 lbs off him running 40s to 110s during summer conditioning, lightened up the bar some while ramping up both the pace and reps and that helped his quickness some.
