At least Gattis has a little fire in him. I remember when Harbaugh used to care enough to yell at refs but that was 3 years ago! I always defended Harbaugh for 2 reasons:

    1) it shows that he had passion and emotion that the players could see and relate to. An angry form of empathy that players aren’t allowed to show on the field for themselves.

    2) As I learned from watching Scotty Bowman for years, you aren’t yelling at the refs to change the call you’re arguing for the NEXT call to go your way.

Good for Gattis. Rather have him on the sideline but that’s not going to help them win games.

Harbaugh got criticized for his complaining outbursts a couple years back. People said he was a show-off attention-seeker at the expense of the team suffering penalties. He took a seemingly intentional path to being more even-keeled and now he doesn’t care. Shrug emoji?

Maybe there’s a point in between where everyone will be happy but I doubt it.

Maybe Harbaugh has instructed his assistants to do the yelling since he knows he has a target on his back.

Harbs has more than just a target on him he’s already been hit………..
Got fined 10,000$ for his post osu game verbage for his ref insinuations in ’16… This came after much of his ‘outbursts’ in both 15 & 16; a suspension was inferred if the tantrums continued.

The fine cooled him off apparently but I’m thinkin it was more about the ‘principle’s office’ lecture he got about on camera ‘professionalism. I don’t have a problem with it perse’ – there’s been enuff woodys & bobby knights etc. over the years. I think Warde nipped Jimmy’s anger issues with authority in the bud. Bo had to do the same thing with him a few times when he was a player – its part of his DNA and he’s also had some heart issues since he’s gotten past playin days; perhaps part of his ‘type A’ personality but we don’t know the status on anything of that either. Not speculating or inferring anything simply hypothesizing………………INTjohn

There is a point in between. I’m 2015-16 he acted like a fool, flipping play cards and tearing off his jacket. It was eccentric, even for him

        Now he’s like a lifeless mouth-breather

        There’s always an in between

Exceed expectations and none of this is even discussed. Under-perform (relative to expectations) and he’s damned if does or doesn’t. No matter what it is. Just like the style of offense defensive scheme player types recruited etc.

    @Je……
Sumthin definately going on with him. Others have commented on other forums along the lines of your description. I agree but don’t know the ‘why?’
I can only speculate and do have my own ideas. When some1 acts seemingly out of a well established & known character regarding a particular setting it is usually because of 1 or more areas re that persons life:
    1- Personal/Family
    2 – Health
    3- Professional
I’m not going to even speculate on 1
2 – as mentioned harbaugh has had some apparent heart issues in the past. To what extent this may have intensified is only known by him & his Dr
2- Other health issues? He’s crowding the age for prostate cancer; I was diagnosed with an aggressive form at 55 the radiation was horrible. I will never go thru radiation treatment again if cancer ever returns. I’ve already made ‘my plans’.

3 – Professional…….my ideas on this maybe in another post. Is he just ‘burned out’? I’ve found myself burned out professionally twice in my life – once at the age of only 28 – when it hits it takes awhile to rejuvenate oneself. For me it was after extensive time in the military unit i was in; intense combat – as in days of boredom then days of intense combat – non stop. Constant training, constant boredom or constant combat. By the time I was 28 i had been doing it for almost 10 years and i just couldn’t do it anymore; there was nothing left to me……
Maybe he’s going thru somekind of psychological burnout, IDK.
Something tho is different, very different…………intjohn

I’m not big on censorship, but some of the speculation here is pretty irresponsible. This is the type of speculation that starts wild rumors and looks bad for the Michigan program.

Let’s keep the discussion about the professional stuff. Thanks.

Agreed, this kind of baseless speculation is very distasteful. Unfortunately, the folks over at Mgoblog have already gone there, out of a need for more attention and relevance, and that genie is probably out of the bottle. No need to feed it, though.

I don’t think that’s the reason. I think it’s just petulance. Some people don’t handle disappointment very well.
