The #1 story I take away from this is that Michigan’s defense is pretty darn good. But the #2 story is that other coaches in the conference pegged Josh Ross as an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten linebacker, but he couldn’t wrangle the starting gig away from Devin Gil.

2015 All-Big Ten Offensive Team

The 2015 All-Big Ten Offense was released on Tuesday night (LINK). Junior tight end Jake Butt was named Kwalick-Clark Tight End of the Year. Butt has 48 catches (#2 on the team), 620 yards (#3), and 3 touchdowns (#3). Among tight ends in the Big Ten, he was ahead of Iowa’s Henry Krieger Cole by 19 catches and Minnesota’s Brandon Lingen by 225 yards, though a couple tight ends had more touchdown catches.

2015 All-Big Ten Defensive Team

The Big Ten Network released the All-Big Ten Defensive team on Monday night (LINK). Several Michigan players were honored, including Thompson-Randle El Freshman of the Year Jabrill Peppers. As exciting as Peppers was, I probably would have voted for Penn State freshman running back Saquon Barkley (1,007 rushing yards, 6.1 yards/carry, 7 touchdowns), who was running behind a patchwork offensive line with an ineffective passing game. But you can’t go too wrong with a guy like Peppers, who played well in all three phases of the game (72 yards and 2 TDs rushing, 8 catches for 79 yards, 27.9 yards/kick return, 45 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups).
