COMMITMENT

Loganville (GA) Grayson offensive tackle Trente Jones committed to Michigan (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2019

Bellflower (CA) Mayfair safety Chris Adimora was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 195 lb. prospect with offers from Nebraska, Oregon, Texas, UCLA, and USC, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #23 safety, and #294 overall. I don’t get my hopes up for any California prospects, so I expect him to go to UCLA or USC.

Chicago (IL) Phillips Academy tight end Jahleel Billingsley was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 230-pounder with offers from Florida, Illinois, Nebraska, and Penn State, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #8 tight end, and #260 overall.

Westlake Village (CA) Oaks Christian running back Zach Charbonnet was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 192 lb. prospect with offers from Cal, Notre Dame, UCLA, and USC, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #19 running back, and #275 overall. As a junior in 2017, he ran the ball 265 times for 2,049 yards (7.7 YPC) and 23 touchdowns. He’s got a good combination of agility, burst, and power.

Boubacar Cissoko (image via Bleacher Report)

If you want the scoop on other former Michigan commits and signees, check out the Ex-Wolverine Encyclopedia (LINK).

TRANSFERS/RETIREES

Boubacar Cissoko – Cornerback – Detroit (MI) Cass Tech
Cissoko was an early commitment in 2007.  Highly recruited, he played extensively as a freshman in 2008.  A starter at the beginning of 2009, Cissoko made 16 tackles, 2 pass breakups, and 1 interception before being suspended and eventually kicked off the team for personal conduct issues.  Cissoko was then arrested for robbery charges that occurred after his football career ended.  He was released from jail and played semi-pro football.
Current status: Out of football

Ex-Wolverine Encyclopedia Update

Adrian Witty (#8) helps recover a fumble in Saturday’s win over Austin Peay

Former quarterback commit Shavodrick Beaver was going to sit out the upcoming season as an academic redshirt at Tulsa, but instead he decided to transfer to Midwestern State, a school in his hometown of Wichita Falls.  Beaver was a part of the 2009 class until the December prior to National Signing Day.

Former Michigan running back Sam McGuffie had 1 carry for 4 yards in a 34-9 loss to Texas.  McGuffie had a leg injury and the coaches didn’t want him to worsen the injury.

Former Michigan safety/linebacker Brandon Smith is no longer on the roster at Temple.

Former Michigan wide receiver Je’ron Stokes is transferring to Bowling Green State University.  His younger brother Malik is a redshirt freshman quarterback for the Falcons.

Former tight end/fullback commit Christian Wilson had 2 receptions for 37 yards in North Carolina’s 42-10 victory over James Madison.

Former Michigan signee Adrian Witty didn’t start in Saturday’s game for Cincinnati, but he notched 5 tackles as a backup cornerback against Austin Peay.

Scouting Report: Ed Davis, LB – Detroit, MI

Southeastern High School linebacker Ed Davis
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 215 lbs.
Class: 2011
Position: Linebacker
School: Southeastern High School in Detroit, MI
Vertical: 37.5″

Notes: Holds offers from Howard, Michigan, and Toledo . . . Attends Southeastern High School, alma mater of 2010 Michigan targets Johnathon Hankins (Ohio State) and William Gholston (Michigan State) . . . As a junior, had 103 tackles, 6 sacks, and 3 interceptions . . . Also scored 8 touchdowns on offense as a running back and wide receiver . . . 3-star prospect and #36 outside linebacker to Scout.com . . . Wears #9 . . .

Strengths: Good size with plenty of room to add muscle mass . . . Plays downhill when opportunity arises . . . Careless with his body . . . High-effort player . . . Doesn’t go down easily with the ball . . . Seems to enjoy chasing plays down from behind . . . Good speed . . . Looks more agile and athletic than the highly recruited Gholston on film . . . Attacks blockers with leverage rather than trying to dance around them

Weaknesses: Not a fluid athlete . . . Lacks some agility in open space . . . Production is a bit questionable, since stats were amassed with two high FBS teammates alongside him in the front seven

Projection: He looks like a good weakside linebacker prospect. He could also project to tight end or rush linebacker, but I’d start him off at WILL. The biggest thing he seems to be lacking is bulk, but he could probably play in his second year.

Reminds me of: former Michigan S/LB (and current Temple Owl) Brandon Smith.

2009 Countdown: #65 Brandon Smith

Name: Brandon Smith
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 209 lbs.
High School: New Brunswick High School in New Brunswick, NJ
Position: Linebacker
Class: RS freshman
Jersey Number: #4
Prediction for 2009: BenchSmith spent last year practicing at safety. Despite his efforts to stay there, his agility and speed remained a concern, so the coaching staff moved him to inside linebacker during spring ball. He currently sits outside the two-deep. The skills are there, but it’s a big mental adjustment for him. I wouldn’t expect to see him on the field this year unless he can help out on kickoff or punt coverage.Fun fact: Smith changed his number from #28 to #4.
