If I Had My Druthers . . . 2016 Tight Ends

Devin Asiasi

As I like to do on occasion, I took a look at the remaining tight end targets on the board for Michigan and created my pecking order. These are my opinions of which players I would rank highest for Michigan’s needs. I specifically avoid referring to recruiting rankings for guidance, although as an avid follower of recruiting, I do have a general idea of the players’ general star ratings. I posted my list for receivers on Sunday (LINK).

1. Devin Asiasi – TE – Concord (CA) De La Salle:
Asiasi, at 6’5″ and 275 lbs., looks like a slightly taller version of former Arizona and NFL tight end Brandon Manumaleuna. He fancies himself as a skill player, and it’s tough to argue. De La Salle lines him up out wide or in the slot sometimes, and they count on him to make plays in space. He shows soft hands and some delightful agility. He doesn’t have blazing speed, but he is an effective and pretty strong runner after the catch. His blocking skills are also impressive at times; he bends well and looks for contact. He could probably afford to lose some bad weight, but he can contribute early while he reshapes his body.

Nixa (MO) Nixa TE Chase Allen

Here’s a look at the next wave of visitors headed to Ann Arbor for the first weekend visit opportunity after the dead period.

GRADUATE TRANSFER
Texas center Jake Raulerson is a 6’4″, 295 lb. graduate transfer prospect. He was a backup this past season, and he started five games in 2014. As a redshirt sophomore this past season, he would have two years to play at his next destination. Michigan also recruited Raulerson out of high school in the 2013 class.

2016
Nixa (MO) Nixa tight end Chase Allen is a 6’7″, 221 lb. prospect with offers from Florida State, Michigan, Minnesota, and Missouri, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #26 tight end, and #571 overall. Michigan recently offered Allen, but the staff piqued his interest with their use of the tight end position. There’s a good chance that Allen ends up committing to Michigan soon. I posted a scouting report on Allen on Thursday (LINK).

Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy linebacker Joel Dublanko is a 6’3″, 227 lb. prospect with offers from Akron, Mississippi State, and Tennessee, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #12 inside linebacker, and #359 overall. He does not have an offer from Michigan at this time, but since the Wolverines are in a questionable situation when it comes to linebacker depth, he could be in line for one. Dublanko is a teammate of 2016 tight end Isaac Nauta (Georgia). EDIT: Dublanko is now scheduled to come next weekend instead.

Hit the jump for several more visitors.

Recruiting Update: January 11, 2016

Egg Harbor City (NJ) Cedar Creek RB Bo Melton

COMMITMENT
Rancho Santa Margarita (CA) Catholic wide receiver Dylan Crawford committed to Michigan at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Paintsville (KY) Paintsville linebacker Kash Daniel, a Kentucky commit, was offered by Michigan. Daniel is a 6’1″, 227 lb. prospect who’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #14 inside linebacker, and #400 overall. Daniel played in the Army All-American Bowl. He committed to Kentucky on this past Fourth of July, and as an early enrollee, he said he’s solid with the Wildcats.

Sachse (TX) Sachse cornerback Jared Mayden decommitted from Oregon. Mayden is a 6’1″, 190 lb. prospect who is heavily considering Florida State and LSU at this point. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #10 cornerback, and #128 overall. Mayden committed to Oregon in July and took an official visit to Michigan in September, but it does not appear the Wolverines are an option at this point. He played in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl last week.

Hit the jump for another 2016 player added to the board, some new 2017 offers, some guys who committed elsewhere, and some random bits.

2016 Recruiting Update: December 16, 2015

Pembroke Pines (FL) Flanagan LB Devin Bush, Jr.

COMMITMENT
Thompson’s Station (TN) Independence wide receiver Nate Johnson committed to Michigan (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Nixa (MO) Nixa tight end Chase Allen was offered by Michigan. Allen is a 6’7″, 224 lb. prospect with offers from Illinois, Indiana, and Minnesota, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #26 tight end, and #560 overall. You may remember that Michigan pursued his class of 2015 teammate Alec Murphy for a little while in the last class, though he ended up signing with Mississippi State. Allen is a long, lanky player who splits out wide to play some receiver, and he is similar to redshirt freshman Ian Bunting in some ways, though Allen is probably a better blocker than Bunting was at this stage.

Hit the jump for some players who went off the board and lots of miscellaneous tidbits.
