Best Overall Recruit: DE Braiden McGregor
McGregor lost a little bit of steam in the recruiting world when his senior season ended in a fizzle after a knee injury. That doesn’t put a damper on my excitement for him, though. Michigan does a good job of developing defensive talent – particularly defensive ends – and I expect that to continue with McGregor.

How does the 2020 class match up with Michigan’s all-time recruits?

A.J. Henning (image via Wolverines Wire)

Michigan wrapped up a decent recruiting class earlier in February. There are no 5-star recruits, but the Wolverines got a fair share of 4-star guys. For a historical perspective on where they match up with recruits from the past, here’s a look at where they slot in all-time, according to the 247 Composite.

A.J. Henning – WR – Frankfort (IL) Lincoln-Way East
2020 ranking: #101
Historical ranking: #80 all-time at Michigan
Flanked by: RB Kareem Walker (#100 in 2016) and DT Will Johnson (#105 in 2004)
Closest positional comparisons: Toney Clemons (#96 in 2007) and Adrian Arrington (#115 in 2004)

Braiden McGregor – DE – Port Huron (MI) Northern
2020 ranking: #122
Historical ranking: #103
Tied with: WR Tarik Black (#122 in 2017)
Closest positional comparisons: Aidan Hutchinson (#112 in 2018) and Chris Wormley (#129 in 2012)

Nightly Roundup: January 9, 2019

A couple players announced plans to transfer: DB Jaylen Kelly-Powell (LINK) and RB Tru Wilson (LINK). I don’t think either departure will really affect Michigan on the field.

Despite expectations to the contrary, 2020 cornerback signee Darion Green-Warren is not enrolled this semester. He did sign his National Letter of Intent to Michigan, but supposedly his high school/graduation paperwork was not processed on time. Now he’s expected to arrive in April. I was just pumping up E.J. Holland of The Wolverine the other day, and E.J. says Green-Warren should be able to participate in spring ball when he arrives . . . which I don’t understand at all. Back in my days at Michigan, the winter semester didn’t wrap until mid-April, and Michigan’s spring game is usually done by then. (LINK$)

Nightly Roundup: January 6, 2019

Darion Green-Warren (image via 247 Sports)

I have, let’s say, “opinions” about the writers for various blogs, sites, etc. around the Michigan media sphere. Some of them are great, and some of them aren’t. A guy who’s quickly moving up the list is TheWolverine.com’s E.J. Holland. Here’s a nugget from a recent batch of recruiting nuggets (LINK):

On how much enrolling early will help Green-Warren: “I think it’s going to help him a lot because now he’s going to get there and put on that extra weight. You have to realize that we stripped 25-30 pounds off of him when he left Mater Dei, which is a powerlifting school. He was looking more like a safety. We took that weight off, and he’s running with the wide receivers and looking like a corner again. Getting in the weight room early with Michigan is going to help a lot. With the weight room comes power and speed.”

For what it’s worth, my favorite recruiting-related guys/bloggers are Seth (MGoBlog), Sam Webb (247 Sports), Steve Lorenz (247 Sports), and Tom VanHaaren (ESPN), with E.J. pretty quickly moving onto that list.

Harbor City (CA) Narbonne cornerback Darion Green-Warren publicly announced his commitment to Michigan on Saturday afternoon during the All-American Bowl. He signed with Michigan during the early signing period in December but kept his decision quiet until now. Green-Warren picked the Wolverines over offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and Oklahoma, the latter of which once held his commitment.

Green-Warren is listed at 6’0″ and 187 lbs. by 247 Sports. He ran a laser-timed 4.67 forty.
