3-27-17 Recruiting Update: Flippin’ Minnesota

In case you missed it, there was some site news posted yesterday about a new contributor and a new way to get an avatar (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2018

Grand Rapids (MI) Catholic Central offensive guard Jalen Mayfield, a Minnesota commit, was offered by Michigan. Mayfield is a 6’5″, 255 lb. guard/tackle prospect who chose the Gophers on February 18, but he also has offers from Arizona, Iowa, and Michigan State, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #57 offensive tackle, and #797 overall. As of Sunday afternoon, Michigan owns 83% of the Crystal Ball picks on 247 Sports, including that of the trustworthy Steve Lorenz. UPDATE: I already had this post written, but Mayfield decommitted from Minnesota on Sunday evening, and I took that as a ripe opportunity to also put in a Crystal Ball for Michigan. He’s now at 100% for the Wolverines.

St. Louis (MO) Lutheran North defensive end Ronnie Perkins was offered by Michigan. Perkins is a 6’4″, 250 lb. strongside end prospect who’s a 4-star, the #12 weakside end, and #254 overall. He has offers from Georgia, Iowa, LSU, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, and UCLA, among others. Perkins is a guy who might bulk up and play 3-tech tackle at the next level, but I don’t think he’ll be a weakside end like his rankings indicate.

Hit the jump for another offer, a commitment elsewhere, and some random bits.

3-1-17 Recruiting Update: Michigan is Princess Peach

If you haven’t chosen a Gravatar (a picture to go with your username), please check out this informational post from the message board (LINK). The cool thing about a Gravatar is that it can be used on other WordPress sites, too, so you won’t have to create new avatars for every username on every site.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2018

Apopka (FL) Apopka offensive tackle William Barnes was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 312 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, and Oregon, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #8 offensive tackle, and #66 overall. Michigan hasn’t tried to go into Apopka much, but they did pull Jeremy Gallon from there back in 2009. Barnes might end up playing on the interior if he doesn’t get a little bit taller.

Hampton (GA) Dutchtown safety Trey Dean was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’2″, 180 lbs. with offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Notre Dame, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #23 safety, and #284 overall. He plays some corner in high school, but I don’t know if he has the fluidity to stay there in college. However, he’s a hard hitter and a lanky kid who can cover some ground from the safety position.

Lee’s Summit (MO) West wide receiver Mario Goodrich was offered by Michigan. He’s 6’2″, 180 lbs. and has offers from Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and Ole Miss, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #21 athlete, and #263 overall. As a junior in 2016, he had 26 carries for 181 yards and 2 TDs, 15 catches for 282 yards and 6 TDs, 46 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 7 interceptions (including 2 touchdowns), 12 pass breakups, and a kickoff return for a score. He named Michigan his top school, and you’ll probably enjoy the speed he shows in the video below:

There will be a lot of campers descending on Ann Arbor for the Aerial Assault QB Camp on June 18, 2016. I have heard that some non-quarterbacks are attending the camp, so I’m not sure if they’ll be receiving targets or if they’re just visiting campus during that time. Regardless, I’ll list here some of the notable prospects attending the camp:

  • Ft. Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas S Adetutu Daranijo
  • Ft. Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas QB Beau Filicchio
  • Matawan (NJ) Old Bridge QB Artur Sitkowski

  • Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson

  • Highlands Ranch (CO) Valor Christian QB Luke McCaffrey

  • Former Michigan and NFL quarterback Elvis Grbac
  • Former Michigan Heisman winner and NFL receiver Desmond Howard
  • Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains

Recruiting from Tomorrow: June 13, 2016

Dorian Thompson-Robinson 22x

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2018

Allen (TX) Lovejoy linebacker Bumper Pool was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’2″, 215 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Arkansas, and Oklahoma State, among others. Yes, his real name is indeed Bumper James Morris Pool. In six games with stats reported in 2015, he made 68 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery.

Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’2″, 195 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Oregon, and Utah, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #4 dual-threat quarterback, and #73 overall. As a sophomore on 2015, he was 11/17 for 179 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT; he also ran 21 times for 179 yards and 3 TDs, and he made 5 catches for 54 yards. Those are pretty paltry numbers for a star quarterback, but that’s because he was a backup to 2017 prospect Tate Martell, a former Texas A&M commit who is likely to end up signing with Ohio State (EDIT: after I scheduled this post, Martell committed to OSU last night). The Wolverines are also recruiting 2017 wideout Tyjon Lindsey, 2017 cornerback Alex Perry, and 2018 linebacker Palaie Gaoteote from Bishop Gorman. Thompson-Robinson’s mother is a Michigan graduate, he has visited previously, and he plans to come back for the Aerial Assault QB Camp in a week.

Hit the jump for a new 2019 offer, the first 2020 offer, and some other bits.
