Kiante Enis, Ex-Wolverine

Kiante Enis

Winchester (IN) Winchester running back Kiante Enis decommitted from Michigan on Thursday. He is a 6’1″, 200 lb. back who’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #35 running back, and #561 overall.

Enis committed to Michigan in early June after Michigan offered him during their satellite camp tour around the country (LINK). The nephew of former Penn State and Chicago Bears running back Curtis Enis, he was expected to play running back, wide receiver, or safety at the next level. The younger Enis was a record-setting back in high school, rushing for almost 3,200 yards as a junior and scoring 49 touchdowns. His senior year saw him run 278 times for 2,393 yards and 35 scores. But Enis mentioned a couple months ago that he had not been hearing much from Michigan’s coaching staff recently, and he took an official visit to Indiana back in December. Another official is scheduled for Miami-OH this coming weekend.

Erik Swenson, Ex-Wolverine

EDIT: Bumped from yesterday since this has been made a big deal. Also, I wrote three posts yesterday and didn’t have time to write one for today. Also also, Kiante Enis has also decommitted but it will be a bit before I can get that post up.

Downers Grove (IL) South offensive tackle Erik Swenson decommitted from Michigan on Wednesday. He had previously been committed to Michigan since late November of 2013, which was at the end of his sophomore season and during Brady Hoke’s second-to-last year. So . . . that was a long time, and in fact, he was the longest-tenured Michigan commit. (Believe it or not, the new holder of that crown is QB Brandon Peters, who committed just before the spring game last year.)

Swenson is a 6’7″, 305 lb. prospect who’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #31 offensive tackle, and #322 overall. He was recently named an All-American by Tom Lemming. He also has offers from Illinois and Northwestern, and a couple Crystal Ball picks have come in recently for Northwestern. That is not a bad backup plan.

However, rumors have been swirling for a little while that Michigan was not in love with his development up through his senior year. I can confirm this sentiment based on looking at his senior film. He seems to be a kid who peaked early when he reached 6’7″ and about 285 lbs. as a sophomore, but his athleticism has not continued to develop. If you look at the highlights below, he is slow off the ball. He does not bend well. Against mediocre competition, someone his size with that recruiting profile should be burying guys into the ground. Sure, there are a few kids who end up on the ground, but not because he finishes them – it’s mostly because they’re outweighed by 100 lbs. Take a look for yourself:

Based on those highlights, I think his commitment to Michigan may have been artificially propping up his recruiting rankings. That’s not the #322 recruit in the country.

Derrick Green, Ex-Wolverine

Derrick Green

As expected, rising senior running back Derrick Green is transferring from Michigan. Green will be a graduate transfer and eligible to play immediately wherever he goes. One potential destination is Florida, where he would be reunited with offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, who made Green the team’s leading rusher when he was offensive coordinator at Michigan in 2014. At no other point before or since has Green approached that level of trust and playing time.

Sir Patrick Scott, Ex-Wolverine

Site note: If you want to create/use an avatar for posting and discussion purposes, check out my forum post on how you can create one (LINK).

Upper Marlboro (MD) Riverdale Baptist cornerback Sir Patrick Scott decommitted from Michigan on Wednesday. He originally committed to the Wolverines in August (LINK). He had attended the Sound Mind Sound Body camp, as well as Michigan’s summer camp, before Michigan offered. This decommitment had been somewhat expected for a while after Scott mentioned that he had not had much contact with Michigan’s coaching staff. He also had not taken or even scheduled an official visit to Ann Arbor.

As you can see from my original commitment post, I had given Scott a TTB Rating of 68. I was not impressed with his athleticism or playmaking skills, which accounted for the low-ish grade. He also did not have a very productive senior season, although he reportedly did a good job of stopping opposing wide receivers. Other reported offers at the time of his commitment came from Arizona, Kentucky, Michigan State, Pitt, and Wisconsin, among others. He’s currently a 247 Composite 3-star, the #56 cornerback, and #678 overall.

Terry Richardson, Ex-Wolverine

Terry Richardson

Michigan cornerback/safety Terry Richardson is using the graduate transfer exception to look for other opportunities to play football. He will be a fifth year senior in the fall and eligible to play immediately.

Richardson committed to Michigan in May 2011 (LINK) as part of the 2012 class. A highly touted high school recruit, I thought at the time that he was a very good get for the Wolverines. He was a bigger playmaker in high school than a lot of other Cass Tech cornerbacks of the era. It should be noted that none reached high levels of success in college, and now Jourdan Lewis appears to have taken over that mantle.
